BMW techs should pay more attention to their jobs: calipers are bolted to a part named carrier (item #1)...

The M5 caliper will not fit the 5-Series carrier... the 528/535/550i use different carriers and hubs from the M5. The 5-Series hub may be compatible (mount-wise) with the M5 carrier, but the M5 caliper is not compatible with the 5-Series carrier. The M5 carrier is shared with the M6 and no other BMW.

Longtran already proved that, thus his use of custom caliper brackets in his M5 brakes conversion to his wife 535i.

If this is to be done the right way using OEM parts then this is a $3900+ job, without labor. You can get an F10 Brembo GT BBK (365mm) for the front for $4000 is you really ask around.

^^ this is correct.

This is why i stopped pursuing this route because once you factor in the custom caliper mounts you are right up there with Brembo prices. Alittle cheaper but not nearly as much as you would imagine.

What about the rear setup? Brembo's wouldn't work because of the electronic handbrake, so if we did get the front Brembo's, I'd want to match the rears with something, and the M5 rears seem appropriate.

Yes, a matching Brembo front n rear M would be nice. Does M rear brake have other color than blue, say Red or Yellow?

Have anyone tried the M brake rear and the electronic brake still function?

Cheers

I would love to try this. I am in Germany and can talk to the BMW dealers here. I can't see spending the money for Brembos but the factory 550i braking is a little lacking.

I just purchased a set of F10 M5 calipers, rotors and pads, front and rear. I am going to either order the M5 carriers/hubs or just make some custom brackets. Auto Couture is going to do the install in the next few weeks. I will advise on how everything comes together. I got a great deal on the whole package and the brakes came off a 2013 M5 with 450miles.

Hi,
"If this is to be done the right way using OEM parts then this is a $3900+ job, without labor". Would you please reply to me with all the parts I need for the job? Possibly part numbers. Has anyone done this before? going from 535i brake setup to M5 setup. Your answer is much appreciated. Feel free to expand as much as possible as I don't know much and like to learn.
Thanks a lot
