Smile BMW 535 GT Engine Noise

Good day,

I have recently bought myself a BMW 535GT and its was magnificent!

There's a minor problem though, is that every morning when i start the car, there's an unusual engine noise (sort of like steel rubbing sound) that will last for 10-15 seconds. Then it goes back to normal behavior, smooth and silent.

Please help.

Is it kind of like a "Screech" sound? I have heard it before when starting in cold climate - not always however. It almost sounds similar to a conventional manual key type ignition when the key is held in the start postion, after the engine has turned over.

These cars can be tempermental. If your car does it all the time, take it to your dealer so that you can show them by duplicating the issue/sound. Otherwise they probably will subject you to hours of reprogramming, because I doubt this will trigger any error codes if it happens on an intermittent basis.

just my two cents

I noticed a strange sound as well on the 1st 535gt we test drove. But after hearing the same on every one, I assume that it is normal. All 2010s BTW. Ours still makes the strange sound at startup. No other issues.

My 535GT happened to make noises from the engine room, especially when idle, I don't know where did it come from.

Sounds like a loose belt or maybe a tensioner with a bit too much clearance on the bearing to me. When they heat up, the sound disappears and it's likely you'll have no trouble. We used to check with belt spray on the belt to see if the belt was slipping a bit, but not needed with todays serpentine belts. As long as it quits in 10-15 seconds, I'd say it's no need to be concerned.
