RFT's

Guys-
For those of us that have swapped out stock wheels for aftermarket wheels w out run-flats, what are you doing for a spare tire? Donut tied down in the trunk? Mobility kit?
Thanks

How has been the experience with non-RFT tires

Any problems? How is the performance?

Thanks

Here is the link for the space saver spare I purchased at BimmerZone. http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...T-F10-KIT.html

I also bought a cover for the tire at bimmerzone, I would recommend tire felts so you have a flat surface for strapping it down and storing things on top of it.

I bought the jack and mobility kit at BMWPartsForLess. http://www.bmwpartsforless.com/index...el-accessories

I switched to nonRFTs on my 2006 e60 550i and have switched to nonRFTs the minute I bought my 2011 550ix and again with my 2012 550ix. I also run nonRFT winter tires. I have Pilot PS2s for summer tires since the Pilot SS's weren't out yet. Better ride, quieter, better performance than an all season RFT.

When was the last time any of you changed a flat....? I can't remember the last time. So some may say "don't worry about it".

I swapped out the 18" RTF's with Pilot SS A/S a couple of days ago. It makes a big difference on bumpy roads with speed humps or potholes. But otherwise, the difference on daily driving is insignificant. My car is F10 535i. I guess the more powerful 550 can take more advantage of the better traction from Pilot SS.

I don't think it's necessary for me to have a spare for daily driving. But I do keep a tire repair kit and an inflator in the car. I might put a spare in the trunk if I need to take it for a long trip.

My thoughts exactly. I haven't had a flat in years....knock on wood. The last 2 or 3 tire problems I've had have been nails which has only meant slow leaks.

Hence, i carry a small heavy duty air compressor and tire plug kit. Should be enough to take care of the majority of issues and get me to a garage if I need.

I have a 535 and switched out the runflats days after I picked up my car. I can't stand the runflats. The car rides and handles so much better with regular tires. I also run regular winters as well.

Triple A to your rescue. Don't waste any money of a spare.

If you're on the city 100% of the time then you'll be ok. But if you take your car outside of the city (i.e. L.A. - Vegas, at night) then better be prepared.
