Replacing calipers
I'm about to replace rear brake pads/rotors.
I'm been meaning to look into replacing the calipers with blue ones. Out of curiosity, I called the dealer. The M upgrade brakes or calipers are not available for my car. Not sure why. Is there a good after-market alternative? Seems like a logical time to look into the issue. I'm right at 60,000 and have never replaced the pads or rotors. Or, am I asking the wrong question. I confess, I have no experience with modifying my car. Thanks!

I think there should be M Performance brakes for your car, do ask them on that. Not Msport.

No real reason to upgrade your calipers and there is no such thing as M Performance brakes for the F10 550. If you are doing a brake job, you can take the opportunity to paint your calipers yourself with heat paint or get them powdercoated. You can achieve the blue color you are looking for with either option.

I'm not doing the brake job myself, but I guess I could have them painted as you suggest. But wouldn't be able to drive the car.
I didn't ask dealer about M-sport or M Performance. I was just looking for blue and that is what the parts guy responded. I may check again. Perhaps I wasn't clear with the guy on the phone. Thanks, Bill

As already have been mentioned, there was never any upgraded brake options for F10 (neither M Sport nor M Performance brakes).
You will not find any OEM options for blue calipers. Paint your current calipers or go aftermarket are your options. |

Its funny how products like this almost never have a proper pic installed. For a reason I guess.

Those look great Tallest - maybe more my speed than faux M blue.
Mine are starting to rust a bit and don't look that great. I'll reach out to the dealer. What is the ballpark expense? Bill

in Europe, so 20% VAT included, it was about 230 EUR I believe. So I figure in US you can get it done under 200 bucks. Mind, this is degreasing, scrubbing off all the old gunk, salt bath etc. It was a chunky job. And warranty. Few paint shops told me to go away as they saw it as too much hassle and couldnt guarantee, but dealer said "we do the blue ones often at request, no problem, 2 year guarantee as always". Kinda made up my mind then. Car was in repair from parking lot damage and I was on vacation so it was an easy decision. Very glad with color but imagine, you can pick some nice nardo gray or silverstone silver - so go for some M car specific color, its much more interesting than the bright blue.

Dealer doesn't do this and my usual body shop doesn't either.
Not sure I care enough to make further inquiry. Thanks though, Bill

If painting the calipers while they are on your car is out of the question for you, then buy some used ones off of Ebay or a local yard and paint them like suggested. It may seem like a less daunting task if your car is not parked and you can take your time. Let them set for a few days then install them or have your mechanic install them.
Once your calipers are off, paint yours too then keep them as spares or sell them to get some money back. If your get used ones, I would suggest getting a seal/ rebuild kit while they are off the car so the seals can replaced since you wont know their history. Eric |
