High Pressure Fuel Pump on N63

Aloha from Maui,
I have a 2012 BMW 550i, which was just diagnosed with a failed HPFP on bank 2, driver side.
Fault codes were:
11A102, and 11AD02.

Is anyone aware of a Recall on these HPFP, and a warranty extension?
Dealer wants to change both pumps, and sensors.

Any thoughts or share of a similar experience would be appreciated.
thank you!

BMW rarely provides a ‘recall’, they call them Customer Care Package or Limited Warranty Extension to save face. I went thru the CCP, at that time I had to fight tooth and nail to get BMW to pony up. I had to get BMWNA involved b/c my dealer wasn’t following the Service Bulletin, long story.

However, during this time I did find out the HPFP ‘Limited Warranty Extension’ only included the 2013 year of the N63 non-TU and I didn’t qualify. It had to have a build date between 6/29/12-6/27/2013 for the 550i or 7/2/2012-6/28/13 for the xDrive.

The other stipulation was your car had to be under 120k miles and under 10 years from your build date HPFP Warranty.

Based on the note that your car is a 2012 I do believe you might be SOL on the warranty. The semi-good news is, FCP Euro sells the Bosch HPFP’s for $502 or OEM for $2300. I haven’t done the job myself but I’ve watched a view videos on it and read thru the newTIS guide in preparation myself to attempt an upgrade and it doesn’t look to bad for an at home DIY’er with the right tools. I would give it a shot, just take your time releasing the pressure b/c I have heard horror stories. Good luck.

Here's the TIS service bulletin for the N63TU engine...check if you may qualify for this one..it was extended to some 2013 model year vehicles: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...45278-9999.pdf

The N63TU engines has four extended warranties that covers up to
10 years/120,000 miles. Do a google search for "BMW N63TU (paste 1 of the 4 listed extended warranties listed below here) extended warranty BMW TIS" to see if your f10 qualifies for any of them. You may or may not fall withing the specific build dates. But it doesn't cost anything to check:

1. Pressure Switch for Leak Diagnosis Module (NVDL)
2. Engine Fuel Injectors
3. High Pressure Fuel Pump
4. Engine Crankcase Ventilation Lines (2)

The extended warranty was for 10 years or less of in service date so a MY2012 would be excluded. I have had both my HPFP's replaced under the extended warranty, one at 39k miles and one at 55k miles.
