Hissing aircon and not cooling :-(
On my way home from work today and my 2013 520d M Sport aircon was set to "auto" and it was hissing like mad. I turned it on and off a few times and when the aircon button was off there was no hissing.
Then I realised the car was not cooling. Turned down the temp to 16 and hissing went worse. Immediately called my BMW dealer to get it booked in and was told on the phone that if the damage is due to a stone then it won't be covered by warranty. Has anyone ever had any issues!? Needless to say I'm worried this won't be a warranty issue. If it's not then surely it's a design fault!? |

A Common problem?
My aircon failed. 520d 15 moths old, 12,000 miles. Stone damage to the condenser and a bill for £566! Only problem is there are no condensers available in UK and none in Europe from BMW at the moment so I will have to wait. BMW said it is not covered by warranty.
Found out that it is a very common problem, hence no stock of replacement condensers and a waiting list! Told BMW that I thought it was a design fault and they agreed to replace free of charge under warranty. I am told it will be replaced by a re-designed unit. |

Yep good call, I sent an email to BMW UK too saying this was a design fault and they authorised a free repair for me too so I never paid anything to have this sorted. This was sorted around a month back

That might not have been a good thing! I understand that there is a re-design on the way to prevent it happening again. I suggest you ask your dealer if they are prepared to fit the new screen in front of the condenser which is intended to stop all but the largest of projectiles.
