Will These taller tires fit a 650ix?

People on the 6 series forum suggested asking my question here since apparently the 6 an 5 series are on the same platform.

I just bought a used 2013 650xi with 19 inch 351M style wheels. The recommended tires are front 245/40 and rear 275/35. So the overall diameter is about equal front and back at 26.7 inches.

I'd like to get a little more sidewall for a softer ride and a little more forgiveness over pot holes and was wondering if there are any problems with rubbing the body if I went with 245/45 fronts and 275/40 that would give a 1 inch larger diameter tire front and rear at 27.7 inches?

Looks to me like the critical part is the upper front suspension part that curves over the front tire. I'm measuring about 3/4's of an inch clearance with the stock tire so a 1/2 inch larger radius tire should clear it by around a 1/4 of an inch. Now I'm debating with myself if I want to take the gamble that it will fit.

If you're worried about the height but want a softer ride id consider changing to non runflats MUCH softer ride and no worries on height concern.....now with springs its about a 1.2.-1.7" drop so considering you can run oem tire size on springs i don't thing going up a tire size should cause rubbing IMO

check 1010tire i believe. They have a tire calculator. Theres lots of sites out there that check for you. That way you can plug in multiple sizes and stay within the 3% diameter.

Also remember the sidewall flexes so you could touch the spindle close to the upper control arm bolt if you are really close. Just my 2 cents

You are correct in your analysis!

245/45-19 will fit and the steering knuckle is the critical part.

I have 245/50-18 as winter setup, that size is equivalent to 245/45-19 in both width and diameter. No rubbing!

I also have 255/40-20 as summer setup, slightly wider and taller than 245/45-19. This tire size rubbed the steering knuckle with ET32, 5mm spacers helped (effective offset ET27).

This is how 255/40-20 looks:

I remembered this post when i chose tires for my 20" rims. et 35 20x9
265/35/20. Was so nice. Direct M5 tire PSS fit! Just barely made it. I eventually downsized to 255.

Not to go off topic but this was the pic that stuck in my head when the OP asked about taller tires.

Thanks so much for that confirmation. As you can see in the pic I posted, the tires that came on the car are almost new so I'm not going to change them for a while. And the ride on the Goodyear runflats is plenty soft enough compared to my C7. But I'm looking down the road to the new ultra high performance all season runflat that Michelin is coming out with in the near future since I run the car year round. And it seems like the main criteria is to keep the max tire diameter at ~ 27.7 inches.

Ive done 245/50/18 all around on my winters with no issue on stock suspension. as .BMW mentioned, its the same size as what you are referring to. the issue arised when i lowered the car and the taller tire would not work with the front fender and would rub during bumps and turns.

I went with 275/40/19's on the rear of my 550i. No rubbing at all, filled out the wheel well much more nicely.

As mentioned above, 27.7" overall diameter will be fine. If it ends up rubbing, it's due to your offset so spacers will fix that. My wife runs 255/35/20 front and 275/35/20 rear without issues. Your speedo will underestimate by ~3mph.
