I'm in the same boat because I'm considering stepping up to an M5 next year. Since I need to get around in the snow, I decided to go with a Ford Explorer Sport. I like the offerings from European and Japanese automakers but after test driving the Ford and the cost I knew this was the best option for me.

Good luck, and make sure you test drive a few of the trucks before making your decision.

If I bought an American car, it would be a Ford. In all honesty, their reliability is now back up there with Toyota, their features/options are on-par or better than most of their in-class competitors, and their styling really has been pretty attractive as of lately. Certainly when it comes to an SUV or truck, they know what they're doing... and bang for the buck is a solid.

Thanks for all the feedback. The more I read, the more I realize how much of a Euro snob I am. Really leaning towards the Range Rover Sport, but will have a hard time splashing out that much just for the brand. Not too keen on the new X5 body style and really don't want to own three BMWs!

I'll keep thinking, but appreciate any more insight y'all can provide.

Also, don't laugh, but we also have a Volvo V70R which is really what I'm trying to replace, albeit a bit more stylish

Have you seen the new Volvo's? They're really nice and a brand I considered because of the safety features. My only fear is the reports that the brand is in trouble and may disappear in 2 years like Saturn or Saab! I too am a Euro Snob but after previously owning a Range Rover truck, there's no way I'm going back to driving the dealership loaners more than my own car. Thank God for Extended coverage!!

It's really a hit and miss with RR. When I had mine I never had a problem with it, and I have read that the quality of the new models is great. I wouldn't be too concerned getting a new one, they look and drive amazing and you have warranty of course.

I'd get the Range Rover under a few circumstances only:

1. You really intend to use it for what it can do. It's capabilities are far beyond a traditional SUV, but if it remains on paved roads for its entire life, it's a real waste. To me, this is similar to buying a Bugatti Veyron to drive at 30mph down the streets of Beverly Hills, never allowing the car to see a track.

2. You don't mind the maintenance inconveniences. Yes, you'll have a warranty, but time is money, too, for most people. My experience with Land Rover was not a great one, like many other people here. It was an AMAZING vehicle for what it could do (which I admit I barely utilized to any full extent, but did on a few occasions), but it was just complete crap for reliability. Going to the dealer so frequently was annoying and taxing on my time. I'd never consider making it my "primary" car (relying upon it for regular commuting or what-not), but perhaps it's not too bad as a secondary or tertiary vehicle.

The Mercedes GL is on another planet in the ride/handling/quality department. There's a reason why it wins SUV of the year every refresh/restyle. M-Class is superb as well.

Sure enough. Too bad. I think they made a terrible mistake letting the XC90 go so long without a redesign.

Sure a sign of a company with no Cash, hence maybe why on the outgoing list, If you look at Land Rover and Jag the same logic, models going on for ever, and the simple reason lack of Cash with TATA taking over with slow and careful investment to recover the losses made earlier, same apply for Aston Martin too.

We picked up a 2013 saphire black E70 X5 35i M-Sport to match our 2013 carbon black F10 535i M-Sport. I love the E70 X5's exterior styling but like the new X5's interior better. The X5 goes very well with the F10. The X5 will cruise at 80-90 very well, it feels like we were at 55-65!! I do like that the Idrive in the new X5 is the same as the 2013 July and later F10's. Its much better than the old E90 328i and E70 X5 family Idrive. But the above mentioned range rover is sweet too!!!

Good luck!!,

Bought my wife a MB GL 350. It's ok, but I think its way over-priced. And the COMAND system is light-years behind iDrive. I do love the diesel engine though.

I can't wait for the X7 to come out.
