She's in it for the glam. If he retires and becomes a farmer, she'll dump him faster than a pit stop.

Q&A with MARK WEBBER

Was signing with Red Bull Racing for 2013 an easy decision?
MW: In the end, yes it was. It’s been an interesting few months, but overall the continuity and desire for me to continue at Red Bull Racing was very strong. My main focus is on this year’s Championship, which is very important. In addition it’s an amazing bunch of guys and girls at Red Bull Racing and I really, really like working with them. That has a huge effect on me and how I perform in the car and it helped me in my decision.

You mention the people, what else is it that you like about the Team and Red Bull?
MW: Well, we have gone through plenty together here. We went from the days when Red Bull had not long owned the team to what it is now. The team really changed when we started to get successful, in terms of getting the balance right between being extremely professional on all fronts to still keeping that laid back and approachable attitude that the team still has within reason. It is just one nice big family now in many ways and we have grown so much. We’ve come a long way and I think it’s clear that I fit well here and that’s what I really like about it.

Were you tempted to think about moving elsewhere?
MW: There were discussions with Ferrari, but my decision was to stay here.

What’s the benefit of staying with Red Bull Racing?
MW: I virtually know everyone’s shoe size! I know everyone’s names, I know how everyone ticks and I know all the departments which is very, very important for a driver. There’s a whole raft of factors.

And how is working with the Team and with Sebastian (Vettel)?
MW: Very good. Obviously with Seb, we’ve worked very, very close together for a long period of time now. I think no-one would really have envisaged how long we have worked together, so that’s probably been a bit of a surprise. There are not many team-mates staying together for that long in Formula One, but it’s proved to be a successful partnership with both of us working very hard with the key technical members of the team. It’s been a potent operation. We’re still competitive when we hit the track, no question about it, especially in 2010 and this year. Last year there wasn’t much racing between Sebastian and I, but in 2009, 2010 and this year, there have been some great battles. That’s been enjoyable for the team, sometimes stressful too as it’s not easy for both of us to be at the front and I can understand that, as both of us are thinking about ourselves sometimes, but ultimately we know that we need to get the cars home and get the best results for us and the team.

Does it help to have contracts sorted earlier in the season?
MW: Yes it does and that’s another reason to just get it to bed. I’ve been hearing different rumours and reasons for a long time now. At the end of the day I know everything that has been going on. You want to make sure your focus is clearly on driving the car and the guys that you’re working with. It’s important the team knows you’re 100% with them, which, of course, I am.

Will 2013 be your last season in F1?
MW: I’ve been asked this question for the past four years and my answer remains the same. It’s a results-based sport at the front of the grid so the future lies in my own hands. It’s down to me to deliver the on-track results

Don't get too comfortable. There's many suitable candidates that can possibly take his spot. Don't forget Ferrari knows how to break contract.

Now that Webber is out of the running, who else is seriously a contender for the 2nd Ferrari seat if Massa is forced out?

Perez - Ferrari already said too young and needs more experience, but they could change their mind.
Sutil - 1 yr out, never really stood out at Force India. Can't imagine they would pick him over Massa.
Alguersuari - 1 yr out, too inexperienced for Ferrari
Di Resta - Lined up for Mercedes seat, or staying at Force India.
Hamilton - No way he would partner Alonso again after their horrible year at McLaren.

I'd kinda like to see Di Resta take that seat. I know historically Ferrari usually don't take and groom young talent, but I think in a better car he'd be able to take the fight to the top teams/drivers.

Honestly I think Perez still has the best chance of taking Massa's seat.

1) He's already in the Ferrari driver academy
2) He's proven he can drive this season, almost winning in Malaysia
3) He would be a great #2 to Alonso, plus he'd benefit a lot from having a 2x WDC as his teammate
4) He's already outperforming Massa this season in the points

Ferrari saying they won't consider his because he's "too aggressive" is just an excuse to get attention off anyone taking Massa's seat. It's not like Alonso is a passive driver or anything so that statement holds no merit.

I agree. Perez would be a great replacement. He is a very talented driver, remarkably mature for his age, and he brings a bucketload of sponsorship money from Mexico.

However, I would have liked to see Webber in a Ferrari. I think he would have made a great teammate for Alonso.

Wow, how did I forget Perez?!

Yeah Perez should definitely be in line for that seat. I read somewhere that Massa is in negotions for a new Ferrari contract however, but that might just be a smoke screen as well.

I think Alonso/Perez duo would be pretty brutal!

Something I was talking about with a coworker should be a fun discussion in here:

Would you rather see Alonso win his 3rd title, or Webber get his first?

Personally, I'd like to see Webber win one finally. he's such a good driver not to have one. He got close in 2010 and he's having a great season this year.

discuss

Webber has had a long journey in F1 and hasn't let up since he got his first win a couple of years ago. He struggled last year with the tires, but has bounced back this year and looks strong and consistent. I hope he can get his first championship this year.

Anything but Vettel getting his 3rd in a row.

I'd actually like to see Webbo finally getting one. He has proved himself with a good machine. Despite last year he had many problems with the cars minor glitches.

I have a feeling he is one of those who had good old school driving skill, probably that's why he didn't make use of the full EBD last season. Where his instinct tells him to drive the traditional way. Compare to Vettel, who is younger and easier to adapt to new technology.

Alonso is getting desperate to get a title under the Ferrari roof. Where he managed to save Ferrari's dignity in the past two years to win a race or two, and even close to championship on 2010.

I'm losing hope on McLaren despite still a supporter. They kept letting their fans down this season.

I think Alonso's season this year, with or without championship saved ferrari's face. they came into the season with, at best, the 4th best car and turned out to win the second race of the season. He's not leading in that very same car. (I still want webbo to win though!)

Any Yeah if you buy into Whitmarsh's hype, they'll be back after the summer break wtih some great new upgrades.

but i don't buy it. lol

She off sedation and talked with her family already!!!
Wish her a speedy recovery!!!

http://en.espnf1.com/marussia/motors...ory/83966.html

Quote:
Marussia has described Maria De Villota's recovery over the past eight days as "remarkable" after confirming she is no longer receiving sedation.

De Villota was seriously injured in a crash during testing ahead of the British Grand Prix last week having collided with the rear of a lorry. Having lost her right eye in the accident and been in a critical condition for much of the week, De Villota's progress has increased over the weekend to the stage she is no longer in an intensive care unit and is speaking with her family.

A full statement issued by Marussia on Wednesday night reads as follows:

"It is now eight days since Maria De Villota's accident at Duxford Airfield whilst testing for the Marussia F1 Team.

"Despite severe injuries, Maria's recovery during that time has been remarkable.

"Following two successful surgical procedures in the days following the accident, last Saturday the medical team at Addenbrooke's Hospital began to gradually reduce the level of Maria's sedation. By Sunday morning, Maria was awake and able to speak to her family, which provided a very important - albeit early - indication that there were positive signs for Maria's recovery.

"Since that time, Maria has been making small but significant steps. She was moved out of the Neurological Critical Care Unit on Monday and is no longer receiving sedation. Her family remain by her side and she is communicating freely with them and the medical team. Medical assessments are ongoing to monitor Maria's improving condition.

"The Team has provided this update with the consent and support of the De Villota family who, whilst keen to ensure Maria's care remains the priority, are understanding and appreciative of the concern for her wellbeing."
