520d first service quotation

Hi all,

Just been quoted £322 for the first service on my 520d ! Is this the going rate ? The car only has 12,000 miles on it and as far as I could make out, they only said it needs an oil and pollen filter change. Just seems very expensive. I remember only paying £170 for my 320i a couple of years ago.
Any comments appreciated.

I can't believe anyone doesn't buy the 5 year service pack from new which is only £450. It does seem expensive I can only suggest taking your own oil.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, this is a 4 year lease without maintenance included.

As the Service plan has a 60,000 Mile limit which I would do long before the 5 years. My service indicator is suggesting that it will be every 21,000 miles. This would mean I only get 2 services from the pack. Are you allowed to take it in say at 19.5K each time or would they not allow you to take it in early?

Also for those without the plan, what are the thoughts on using a non official BMW dealer as I understand the law now specifies that it doesn't have to be a BMW dealer for the servicing to keep the warranty? - After all changing the oil and a couple of filters is not that difficult!

Fair enough about the mileage. I do a lot of city driving so although my indicator suggested 20,000 miles when I drove it off the forecourt, that soon dropped down to 13,000. I only do about 8000 per year so I'd probably get three services in the five years.

Yes, European Block Exemption means you can have it serviced at an independent without affecting the manufacturer's warranty.

Shop around the BMW dealers in your area, I've previously found considerable price variations and a willingness to haggle.

Provided that you get any parts required from a BMW approved source and keep all receipts.

Depending on where your based a trip to Europe could be worth while... BMW in Europe cost less than the uk mainland... Might be worth looking at, a few years back MB calais was about £70 cheaper for a service than the same service in dover...
