Well the f10 is 300 pounds heavier. Plus garbage electric power steering. It's going to be very hard to get to that old school feel. I'm sure some ACS or H&R springs and some legit tires (pilot ps4s or left over pilot super sports are on sale) will help out a lot.

I have ACS springs, H&R swarbars and P4S tires on my F10, it still drives and handles like an F10.

My E39 I had before was on Bilstein PSS9s and handled phenomenally for a portly sedan, at the down side of riding like ass.

If you want your F10 to handle better consider a quality set of adjustable coilovers, KW street comforts of V3's depending on your ride quality vs. handling preference.

you need the adaptive drive and proper tyres to get this shortened 7 series to handle anywhere near what you want, plus some M5 sways or something. I mean this is NOT a well handling car compared to what you are after. It is fast, safe, comfy, etc. But it is not some canyon carver. E60 is much better in this terms, feels way nimbler. And G30 is also much better as far as how easy it is to throw about. Sorry man. Start investing or just get a g30 is my advice, or even some super nice condition E60.

thats just my personal experience. My family, girlfriend all like how comfy and whatever this car is but coming from Z4s and 3 series im like all the time thinking "damn, this is not what I expect from 5 series". its like bad 10% of the time but most of the commutes I do it is damn perfect so I have it.

2011 F10 vs 1999 E39 CONFUSION

The 2011 F10 is handsome and very well appointed and it is great for straight highway cruising like a 50's Buick Roadmaster and the gas mileage is phenomenal about 30MPG. The sunroof's headliner is very quiet either closed or opened. I don't mind the electric steering. But it's not remotely like the 1999 E39 for goin' across the mountain. It's hard to believe the same company built the same model cars that are so different in just 12 years. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall at some of those meetings. I'm guessing some very important people retired.

I agree everybody up above. Forget it handling is not the focal point of an F10.

The E39 is well and truely gone

After two or more years with the F10 the E39 is a dinosaur and the F10 is the new standard for me now. The fixed M-sport suspension is yet again all I need for street driving. Turn hard into a corner and you can feel the M-sport suspension pushing back up at you. The M-sport suspension designers have hit the sweet-spot for me. Over-steer is better than under-steer and the double wish-bone front suspension works nicely with the M-sport set-up.

Spent some time dodging potholes today (Kentucky freeways seem to be littered with them!) and the car responded without so much as a body roll. Quite impressive for a car as large as the F10 is in my book.

Oh yeah!! San Diego to Arlington to visit my mom for a couple days, then 3 days in New Orleans, then 2 in Asheville to see the Biltmore house and drive some of the Blue Ridge Pkwy, then off to Dollywood (which turned out to be a little of a bust when we realized due to my CABG surgery a few months back I couldn't use a chest-type restraint harness), then to see the Ark Encounter; and now we're on our trek back home. My hand calculated mpg has been 30-31!!
