MP: Dyno day with Stage 2 M235i. JB4 and Flash Tuning results

Today we had a pleasure of Dyno-tuning a fellow forum member's vehicle, ocN55. The vehicle in question was one of the cleanest and most taken care of 2series we had worked with and performed very well at the dyno. This M235i is a stage 2 (aside from turbo upgrade) vehicle with FBO upgrades.

We could not get a real baseline test since the car is already modified, so the base line was performed on JB4 Map0 and original flash with FBO. The run file is named JB4_MAP0_91 on the image. The results came in at 315whp/348ftlb. Numbers are slightly higher then stock M235i since the vehicle comes with FBO.

Second run was performed with JB4 Map 1, original flash and 91 pump gas. The results came in at solid 332whp and 345ftlb. The peak torque stayed the same tho torque at 4K+ was increased. The run file name is JB4_Map1_91.

Third run was performed with JB4 MAP 0 (Disabled), 91 pump gas and our custom flash tune. The results came in at 370whp/412ftlb. The power was achieved with around 13 lb of boost. The peak torque was limited to 412ftlb as the customer is equipped with manual gearbox and 412ftlb is already past the "limits" of the trans and clutch.

The last test was performed with original reflash, JB4 Map 6, and E40 mix. The reason we had to add 4 gallons of E85 (result was around E40) is due to the fact that owner said that Map 6 only runs with E40. The results were very impressive 406whp/433ftlb. The power was achieved using 17lb of boost and keeping AFR at around 13.5:1.

As you can see, the factory Electronic Wastegate limits the boost at 4750rpm. Our stage 2.5 reflash offers waste gate re-calibration and will be part of the package for customers that want to maintain high boost all the way to redline.

We had some more time for one for vehicle and we decided to throw our 2015 550i on the dyno once again. After some more improvements to the torque management and older-school mechanical waste gate, we were able to achieve 529whp/529ftlb. There is still more room for improvements, though 530whp 550i is more then sufficient enough as a daily driver.

What is the correction % on these dynos? Are they the new DynoJets or Mustand Dynos?

Good stuff so far.

Looks good, I wonder why didnt you guys do a run on jb4 map2? In a car with bolt ons isnt map2 the way to go over map1? I felt a decent upgrade going to map2 in my car

MP, Also whats your opinion on map6 results?

Also did the vehicle have the ewg harness connected with the jb4?

The owner of the vehicle had it setup to run Map 1 on 91 pump gas and map 6 on E40.

Map 6 results are for sure looking great. I wish we could run MAP 6 on pump gas for a fair comparison, but that is just not possible according to the vehicle owner. MAP6 with E40 had 36hp advantage over reflash, though map6 was running at 17psi vs 13psi for re-flash.

Yes, JB4 had the harness. Without the harness, it cant go over 14psi.

Im curious to see map2 vs your stage 1 flash since i suspect performance to be about the same. For map2 from my understanding you need some bolt ons which this car had, technically from reading a downpipe is enough to go to map2.

Also any timeline on your NJ trip?

We will ask the owner of the car and see if he wants to try map2 during next dyno session.

We are planning the NY trip once we have enough people on our groupbuy.

Map 2 is a no go for people in California, it requires 93 octane minimum.

with bolt ons even with 91 you can run map2 many people without issue, his map6 with a spike of e85 runs way above what map2 would run

No that's is not the case, you are misinformed about 91 octane and map 2.
I've seen logs where even on 93 , cars are octane deficient.

Map 2: Additive target, around 6psi over stock. Suggested for those with 93 octane and bolt on modifications. Also good for small E85 mixtures.
Map 3: Progressive methanol mapping, absolute target of 11-20psi based on meth flow, meth additive setting, and average ignition values.
Map 4: Stock performance with JB4 active for logging only.
Map 5: Autotuning map, absolute target of 11-17psi based on octane and conditions.
Map 6: User definable absolute target map. Suggested for troubleshooting by professionals only.
Map 7: Race gas map. Absolute target of 18.5psi. Requires straight unleaded race gas.

You win this round I guess I misunderstood

Still interesting to see the performance on map2 especially in a safe environment where trims etc are being monitored on a dyno

* EDIT *
or maybe not I guess it depends on other mods, but for safety sticking to 93 is ideal in map2
