Things to look out for when buying used

I'm in the market for a 520d and am wondering what exactly I should be looking out for when I arrange viewings and test drives. Are there any specific faults or issues?

The spec I'm after is:
  • M Sport body
  • Widescreen nav (not the standard smaller one) - can't remember what BMW call this
  • Reverse cameras
  • Folding mirrors
  • Automatic

In the UK, what would you say is a reasonable price to pay for a 2011 model with mileage of around 60-70k? Would you say that I'm crazy for even considering buying a 3 year old car with so many miles?

Thanks all

266 views and not a single reply, that's a little disappointing.

Personally i'd say around the 18-20k mark for a 2011 with that milage, your not after much extra wise so would be doable for that.

Check car giant and auto trader etc. Why not go for the 525/530d good economy and enjoyable performance

If you're worried about the vehicle having issues, just buy from the dealer with warranty.

You probably want to post this on the UK regional forum, as most on this page are from US so they wouldn't be able to offer much advice about 520d.

In my opinion, edmunds.com has the best, most accurate car value assessments. Go to the "used cars" link and then fill in the form for "Appraise a used car." In the US these numbers are pretty much spot on.

You struggle to get the options you want especially on a 520d they all seem to be base models, ones that are well specified are also well expensive
I looked for ages for one with folding mirrors in the end I gave up
Retrofitted widescreen nav to mine as this had a premium over base price, used from ebay with activated maps 430
Auto is a nicer car to drive although nothing wrong with manual
If you intend to carry stuff try and get one with folding rear seats, they are an option was gonna sell mine because of this
M sport again has a premium of about 2 grand over base price
High mileage is not a problem just make sure 1 owner and up to date history
