Agreed they are ugly - but if they work and get reviewed well they would probably become ultra cool and then everyone would want them.

This technology/idea is like 10 years old, I recall Goodyear had similar demonstration in early 2000s. I'm believe it’s good mainly for off-roading, there is a reason why it never made to a real world (everyday driving) so far.

they are ugly and they will never work for big aftermarket wheels. There just isn't enough tire space/thickness.

Less unsprung weight, no more leaks, and cheap to replace the band. Great idea, but I agree, very ugly.

Tire companies don't have much incentives to move forward with this. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot???

You have to wonder about lateral stiffness. More or less than with regular tires and wheels? There's not much solid wheel in there.

Those pictures are many years old. nothing has come of it

Some military vehicles work ok with them, but not do good on others

I think Energy Return Wheel's (ERW) idea is more practical. It's another concept of airless kevlar/carbon fiber tires designed by Brian Russell.
