Vehicle Tax; charge for F11 530d
I paid £140 when I bought the car last August ... just been looking to see when the Tax Disc becomes redundant, and out of curiousity looked to see how much it was gonna cost me this year.
The Gov.uk site says for 'F10/F11 2010 onwards' [19" wheels]- £180 Tax (152 CO), .. the V5 says 149 CO, ie £145 Tax and the current BMW website Engine spec page says 139 CO, which drops it another Grade ! So those sources between them cover 3 levels of Tax Then I noticed that the Gov.uk site lets you chose from 17, 18 or 19" wheels .... new one on me ! Each has a diffn CO level quoted .... Wondering if the LCI engine was 'better' than the original 2010 F10/11 ? Anyone know which is correct ?

It's whatever it says on your V5
Different options (such as wheel sizes) can all affect the emissions of a car hence the variations you see. Indeed if you look on the BMW website you will see it gives a range for each engine for this very reason. But the only number the tax man cares about it the one printed on your V5 |

Strange I've never noticed the wheel-size variations before on the Gov.uk website ... do it every year, and just dont recall the drop-down menu offering the choices!
The BMW site only shows that one figure for the 530d - http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/new-vehic...3/engines.html BMW 530d SE Touring CO2 emissions in g/km - [139.0] [1] Combined (ltr/100km) Combined (mpg) - [5.3] - [53.3] [1] Cylinders/valves per cylinder 6/4 Capacity (cc) Capacity (cinch) 2993 183.00 Stroke/Bore (mm) Stroke/Bore (inch) 90.0/84.0 3.50/3.30 Max output (kW/hp/rpm) 190 (258)/4000 [2] Max torque (Nm/rpm) 560/1500-3000 Compression ratio : 1 16.5 I'm really wondering if the LCI models of the 5-series improved on the CO (it matches the F30/31 3-series pretty much) and the Gov.uk site is still using the original 2010 model figures ?

Anybody else's 5-series LCI CO figure stated in their V5 more than the 139 currently quoted for a 530d on the website ?

The CO2 emission for the F11 530d LCI is listed from 139 to 149 depending on the wheels.

The simplest way to find out what VED you will be paying is to check the CO2 figure on your V5, and then refer to this table:

Yes, I suspect that some Dealers havent registered the LCI model with the correct CO value, from July/Aug 2013 onward ... Your figure is below the range currently published as '2010 F10/F11' ... Mine doesnt 'work' either - my 19" wheels should put it into the 152 CO (£180pa) bracket @Dippo - "The simplest way to find out what VED you will be paying is to check the CO2 figure on your V5, and then refer to this table:" You havent read all posts have you ....

Then why repeat what had already been said? - not to mention missing the point about the variety of CO values ....

Reviewing pre-July 2013 530d's on BMW Approved Used cars site, consistantly shows 19" wheeled variants at 152 CO2 rating ..... current LCI model is 149.
So check your V5's - the DVLA site is incorrect in still showing 152 & hence £180 RFL ....

AS people say , it does vary. Pretty sure (don't have teh inof to hand) but my 2012 53d msport was 145g/KM. Thats with 19 inch wheels.
Also bear in mind the 530d power output was changed near the end of 2011 from 245HP tro 258HP so the CO2 value no doubt changed slightly. |

Comparing CO2 values for 530d with 19" wheels like for like pre & post Jul12 shows the problem.

I have a November 2013 lci 520d manual with 19s the cars registered as 129g/km but looking on the used car site it shows same aged cars as 119g/km has mine been registered incorrectly. If so is there anything I can do

yes the bigger the wheels (and presumably the more grip and slightly more rolling resistance) the more CO2 pushed out.
I presumably also means that if you change the wheels, you are subject to the tax charge at build time, not necessarily what wheels you have on there now. out of interest, anyone taken their tax disc off now? I have, seems odd after so many years of having one there on the windscreen. |

So speedtrip, given that we are through your first year of ownership, what was your renewal figure?
My 520d M Sport Plus'd 19's was £110 new in November 2013, and is £110 on renewal, so fair to say this should be the same for any model, unless BM do not even know their models, which is highly unlikely

Bigger wheels increase fuel consumption (and hence CO2) due mostly to the increase in aerodynamic drag, but also slightly from increased mechanical drag.
Oddly, it seems the CO2 rating is based on the spec of the car when new, and doesn't change if you add big wheels for styling (or conversely smaller wheels for ride/economy). |
