Every time I see a thread like this it makes me nuts.
I need to do this. I want the M5 diffuser and the tips but I dont want to spend ridiculous money. They Ebay tips look nice and the M5 diffuser plastidipped looks real nice. Will this combo work?

HAHAHAH you have to do it. It drove me insane from day one when when I purchased my vehicle. From what everyone is saying the Ebay tips will work. I paid a little extra to make sure mine would work. But I don't regret it. I just know anything over 7inches total length will not work if you are keeping your factory mufflers. So measure and pull the trigger I promise you its worth it.

Well for what I read from many other members here and own experience, is that the stock exhaust with double tips wont fit in the M5 rear diffuser... I personally don't like the quad tips in the MSport diffuser as the tips sit too much to the sides..but to each its own....So I changed my mufflers with custom 3.75 inch tips, plasti dipped my self the rear diffuse and that is it...here is how it looks with the stock exhaust and the M5 diffuse prior my drive to the shop
As you can see there is no room for the quad tips in this set up Here is apic next to my buddy's M5 that is going to change his tips to a 4" (I think 3.75 is big enough for my little engine) Quote:

Looks really good. The tips that a lot of manufactures make stick out way too much. I was only able to find one, and of course they charged a premium. But was still cheaper than changing out mufflers. Others have found cheaper, but that's great if they saved a few bucks. But your setup looks great.

How difficult is the install of the diffuser?
I know there are many threads but everyone has a different approach and I dont want to screw it up.

Well Was easy , just bolt off and bolt on. Where it gets a bot tricky (and you need to be a bit handy here) is the part that you have to reposition a sensor. I used my dremel to cut the top part like the instructions you found here and then shave off some plastic of the original mounting that was touching the bottom part of the new diffuser. The sensor i relocated to an opening of the plastic i cutted (attached to the car) and glued it using doble side tape i had from my spoiler install (3m super extrenght) and woila!

They suggested I delete the mufflers and wield the tips. I told them I don't want it too loud. They said they can cut the muffler out and before they wield the tip, I can hear how loud it would be. If I didn't like it they can wield it back. So I agreed. After cutting off the muffler they started car for me to hear and thought, Oh this aint that bad so I told them go for it delete the muffler. The cost wasn't to bad $140. Well after a good few miles of driving around I am now regretting decision. Its not so bad when your up to speed but man its too damn loud taking off from stop light to stop light. It seem even louder when your taking off slow. It does look much better but I feel like I'm driving around in a Rice Rocket now Last edited by Black5; 03-24-2014 at 11:34 PM.. |

Honestly I'm even embarrass to take my car in for service sounding like that. I think I'll just end up putting my stock muffler on and buy another tip. |

(exhales slowly) I didn't say too much when people started mentioning other options that will not fit even though I went under the car and measured myself, but just spend the extra money and be done. Look at the wasted time, money, and added stress. Yes the tips were expensive, but they look nice, and are measured correctly. If you want a more aggressive sound then completely change out the mufflers. Straight pipes on our cars just aren't a good fit.

Well im back here at the muffler shop. Im having add mufflers they claim to be quiter and add performance for $140 total. I told them go for it. It was gonna cost me $100 just to put back my stock muffler so whats $40 more. Anything is better than driving a rice rocket around.
Well car is done. On the way home it has a nice little rumble sound when you punch it other than that its not bad at all. At least the didn't spend to much. All good now!! Last edited by Black5; 03-25-2014 at 03:01 PM.. |
