The price in Göteborg/Sweden is 15400 kronor which is roughly 1700€ so Germany is no doubt cheaper.

Hope it's going well Touring!

We still don't have this in the UK - 1er and 3er only still:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/owner/acc...uct=drivetrain

I doubt if they will make this kit available in the UK, as it will have negative impact on the 4 cylinder 525D sales, which is just over 5,000 GBP more in the UK at new cost, over the same spec 520D (so approx. 6,000 Euro at current exchange rate). If anything, I doubt that the kit won't be made available for some considerable time, so that BMW UK can benefit from 4 cylinder 525D sales for a couple of years.

Logical entry point for the UK market will be after the first M Sport derivatives come out of warranty - at which point, the much cheaper 3rd-party options for increased performance, become a viable option. I think perhaps from September 2013 time frame ... maybe. Perhaps I'm talking rubbish - just trying to think through the logic of the corporate machine.

Im fine Ipso facto :-)

Because of car taxes here are based on horsepower (and C02 and weight) a 525d costs 15 000 euros more than 520d, so was a easy choise for me.

A 520d costs about 67 000 euros, but a 550i 180 000 euros

Touring;

Quick question:

In M Performance Parts catalogue, it says: "The M Performance lettering for the side sills is included in the BMW M Performance Power Kit."

Do you have this? And what is it exactly?

BTW my dealer in Istanbul, Turkey told me this upgrade will cost 1500 Euros plus tax (I guess he means value added tax, which is %18, and makes the total roughly 1750 Euros), excluding the labor. I still couldn't decide whether it is worth paying around 2000 Euros for it... still waiting for some videos from you

Does this include labor? On the BMW website it says 14825 SEK excl. labor and additional parts. Only ~600 for installation? However, 15400 brings it down to 11088 SEK after VAT incl. a 10% discount, which is on par with the German price if you include travel costs.

Sounds like this is not quite plug and play then. Hopefully they have udated the installation guidance on this by now (and maybe the price in light of the 3 days...) Did the problems possibly have to do with the specific 163hk configuration for Norway?
Anyway - greatly appreciate you sharing this experience about the automatic version of the PPK being available. Having waiting for this since I first heard about the kit last year. Thanks a lot.

That leaves the question about the extended warranty. And what happens at service (when there is a software update)?

On second thought I guesss these 3 years extra warranty is actually not much more than the standard consumer law (kjøpsloven) obligation the dealers in Norway have to abide by anyway. Only difference is sounds good coming from the dealers...

ps
I cant help wonder how you killed time wating for 3 days in the otherwise nice city of Lübeck

I am glad to do it i germany just because they try to get too much money from us.
I have 10% discount on all extras but I have to argue every time to get it.

I am taking delivery of a 163hp 120d in a few days, it has the same engine as the F10/11 520d. I consider having the M Performance 200hp tuning kit installed by the dealer, and was assured full warranty and no problems by future software updates.

You are correct about the rights according to consumer laws vs. factory warranty. The extended 5 yrs warrany is step forward anyway, not needing to slam the lawbook on the desk of the clerk when something is broken.....

Supers: Nice, here in Sweden only cheaper cars get a warranty over 2 years, Renault, Kia etc have much longer warranty. Audi, BMW, MB etc only have two years.
Usually it is just a trick to force you to service the car at their authorized dealership.

I have been looking through the videos, and the figures are like this, starting at 110kmh :

Before tuning:

110-140: 7 sec
110-160: 13sec
110-180: 24sec
110-200: 46sec
110-210: a weekend

After tuning:

110-140: 6sec
110-160: 11sec
110-180: 18sec
110 -200: 28sec
110-210: 35sec

It confirms the feeling I had, that from 150 and up it was like a new car. From 160-200 it took 33 seconds, now 17 seconds, almost twice as fast!

It is really a big improvement. It is a shame that it seems working for the wrong speed/rpm range.
A power/torque graphic comparison on the full rpm range (before and after) would be very useful.
However thanks for the figures

I don't understand what you mean with wrong range. From 0 to 100 there isn't that much difference between a 520 and a 525. I would expect the numbers there to be very similar with this kit on. In high speed it's the amount of horse power that matters and this is where the norwegian and belgian 520d models will improve the most.

So what you are seeing here is that the car accelerates harder AND the acceleration stays on hard for a longer time before the amount of effect lose against the friction of the air.

Hello Touring. I was wondering if you feel any differences in torque between 0 to 100km/h.? Cause that`s were we usually stay here in Norway.

This is the reason why i wonder about this, text about the kit:

" Ved hjelp av programvare og maskinvarekomponenter får bilen en ekstra effektøkning. Motorens maksimale dreiemoment er avhengig av valgt gir."

It says that maximum torque depends of chosen gear.

I`going to Bremen in July, so i`m thinking of getting the performance kit installed there.
Just have to get an answer regarding my Norwegian 5 year warranty first.

I have also been waiting for an answer regarding the 5 year warranty. I have it confirmed that you will keep it if you get it installed in Norway, but I have yet to get a confirmation that I'll keep it if installing in germany. I'm going to query BMW Norway directly about it next week. If you get any information, I would be happy if you share it
