German magazine ends their long term test with a COMPLETE tear down of the F11 528i

Interesting to see the attention to detail Auto bild goes to when they do a long term test. The car, in this case a F11 528i, is completely dismantled by a technical service (DEKRA) and minutely measured for wear and tear. Even the engine is dismantled!

See page 4-5 of the attached PDF file for some photos that might be interesting even though the rest of the article is in German.

Very interesting.

I only understood one word. "Wunderbar". Perhaps that is all we need to know...

It's a brand of German candy. It would have been fun to see the faces of the BMW reps who came to pick it up.

Of particular interest, I thought, was the summary of the car's dependability, roughly translated as follows:

Breakdowns: 0
Unplanned service visits: 0
Functional defects: 0
Minor defects: 0

This was a 100,000 km (~61k miles) test. I'm going to start taking mine apart right now.

Thanks for posting. It's really interesting to what detail they go to determine wear and tear. Also interesting to see how many of the cars sold in Germany are diesels. That is even more than I imagined.
