Valve Cover leak
I have a 2012 535i M-Sport with 48,000 miles on it. The other day the low oil light came on and I went straight to the dealer. They told me it was common and to just add oil but I insisted they check out. Turns out they said the valve cover gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. I have read a lot about the 550i burning oil and older cars needing the valve cover casket replaced but don't see anything on the forums about the f10 535i. Has anyone else had an issue of burning oil or gaskets leaking? I am just glad it was repaired under warranty.

Not me, I'm at 55k. Crossing fingers. In any case BMWs are hungry for oil.

I have 2013 N63.. Everyone says it's normal. I just had valve cover seal replaced when I noticed slight oil burn on top of the engine part. For Aluminum alloy engine, the slightly leaked oil usually burns off rather than leaks to a point that drips.. In my case, I saw the drip mark after they jacked up the car at a very confined area. |

Typically BMW I6 engines tend to develop leaks at higher mileage - just like any other maker, it is strange that yours started leaking as early as it did. The V8s tend to leak like a sieve pretty regularly. My previous E60 550 had new valve cover and timing cover gaskets replaced at 40k miles. The E60 530 I had before that still hadn't developed any leaks when I sold it at 89k miles (gotta love the M54 engine).
