Brakes covered under warranty?
My car is still under the original 50k mile warranty (at 49K right now) and my brakes make the car shake when I presss them going above 40nph.
I called my service advisor and they said this is covered under warranty and I don't have to pay for new rotors. Is this always the case?

I had the same issue on mine and after changing the rotors the vibration was gone.

Correct. There is two types of plans you can get/buy. The first is the normal warranty that fixes stuff if something breaks or is going bad. The second is the maintenance plan. The maintenance plan is when you pay up front for all the services for a time period or miles. And luckily it was still transferable (from what I know, its not anymore).

Going to call my SA again and get some facts. Is it better to go to the dealer if I have to pay or should I get some after-market ones around the same cost that are better or cheaper?

Its all depends on your skill level. If you are able to do it at home (or somewhere cheaper that you trust) then go that route. Personally brakes and rotors is a good DIY to learn and will save you hundreds, if not thousands.

1. If you are the original owner of the car, everything is covered besides pretty much tires and gas 1st 50k or 4 years. 2. If you are NOT the original owner of the car BUT car entered into service before July 2014, above still applies. (As in OPs case) However, I do remember reading recently about rotors not being covered as well. 3. If you bought the car used and if it entered into service after July 2014, you are on your own unless some sort of an additional maintenance plan or warranty was purchased. BMW canceled their free maintenance plan unless you are the original owner in the US in 2014 which is a bummer. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Just curious, how many miles should the brakes/rotors last with spirited driving?

With spirited driving? I purchased my vehicle after a lease return and the front rotors were shot at 33k miles. Warranty replaced the whole front braking system. Rotors, pads, and calipers.

Man that was one of the great preowned perks for BMW! I loved it with my first BMW purchase with my E60.

I replaced my rears at 45k miles and now my front at 52k miles.
Front OEM are expensive because of the 2 pieces style (aluminum hat). I went to IND for the rear for 350 $CAD and not the front from 400$CAD including PAD, Rotors, sensors and installation (quality rotors and pads were used...) Much less vs dealer.
