Trying to buy a intake for my 2012 535i xdrive.

Hey guys I've been looking online to buy an intake for my 2012 535i drive and I've seen the BMS air intake but also the AFE Power magnum Intake system. Anyone know which one is better?

The F10 BMS intake has been good to me and that turbo spool hiss is always nice to hear.

I also have the BMS intake and have really enjoyed it. The faint sound of the turbo will never get old. $199 for an intake seemed like a lot but I didn't turn on the radio for weeks!

If you were considering AFE, maybe snatch this up.

I hear you. Having only ever invested in K&N drop-ins for past vehicles, $199 was a lot. I think it is worth it for this car though.

I think BMS is actually 1/3 the price of AFE, aren't they $600 bucks? Hell, if you got that slightly used one posted in the marketplace at $300 I'd pull the trigger.

I prefer the K&N if it was between K&N and BMS. BMS does not offer a heat shield around the intake. Therefore, in the summer you will draw hot-pressurized air from the engine bay.

If your Intake air temperature are of concern for you, and want the best in terms of heat suppression, i would stick with the oem air box..

Our Intercooler has alot to deal with in stock trim, i wouldn't do anything to increase that work load.

Side note: anyone know if I need to be oiling my BMS intake filter? If there were instructions in the box, I ignored them and immediately started wrenching.

highly agree. a modified intercooler is a far better option. these metal pipings with cones on them are trash compared to your OEM box if you're staying under the 400HP bracket. unless you have a bigger turbo or very high boost settings, the stock box is better.

has anyone had a CEL on come with having an intake? I know on my previous car, i had CEL issues because of mass air flow due to the intake?

No CEL. I have the K&N. It has a metal heat shield that attached to the lower stock air box and seals to the hood with weather stripping. The intake tube is molded plastic. The design seems to reject heat at the same rate as the stock air box. I am going to wrap the heat shield in reflective tape to help with heat rejection.
