Xenons - Daytime Driving Lights setting?

I've just taken delivery of a 520d SE with standard Xenons. In my previous 2011 F11 (non-Xenon) I could set Daytime Running Lights in iDrive settings. In the new car there isn't this option in my iDrive Settings under Lights - even the owner manual says there should be this option.

Does anyone have Xenons with Daytime Running Lights set in iDrive? Am I missing something?

My workaround is to leave headlight switch permanently on. Living in the countryside I am a big believer in daytime running lights.

The reason there is nothing in iDrive is that you aren't allowed to turn them off nowadays. If this is a new car they will be on all the time whether you want them or not. If they are not coming on with the engine, check the fuses.

are you saying thay they are not on with the switch in "0"?

I know it can be coded but you should not have to resort to that for a new car..

this I assume is a uk new model ?

they will be turned on by default and even if the headlight switch is on the 0 . one way to be sure is to start the car and turn the headlights to 0 and walk around to the front and check!
As far as i know the headlight switch makes no difference, as soon as the engines turned the DRL will turn on .

The headlight switch makes a difference in that when the headlights are on the DRLs turn off. You can't have both on at once.

DRLs will be on unless the headlights are on and even then they are on but act as parking or side lights.

The DRL setting in your old car just set the headlights on all the time. As the LED DRL's fitted to LCI F1X models are designed to be used as that, they are bright enough to not need the headlamp as well, hence the option in iDrive was removed.

Thanks everyone, got it now (though user manual is wrong or out of date, then!)
