DTM: High Pressure Fuel Pump
So I got the drivetrain malfunction warning / stability... / loss of power warning while driving home about a week ago. I towed the 550 to the dealership in Baton Rouge, LA. (CCP was performed about 6 months ago)
Just got word from the dealership that I will need to replace the high pressure fuel pump under the hood and low pressure pump in the tank. Apparently, the in-tank pump is covered under a extended warranty, but the hpfp is not? My car was produced in May 2010. I believe that quite a few N63 owners have had problems with these pumps, no? Has anyone done the repair out of warranty (asking $750 )? |

Well what I have read is that only certain production month models fall under the HPFP "recall" (which they will never officially call it).
I believe it's most cars built in 2011. My car was built in 2010. I just can not wrap my head around all the hpfp failures amongst so many of the bmw models, and bmw isolating cars built in certain months. |

I went to the dealer and he told me mine is not under recall but does have the extended warranty, It hasnt failed, and hasnt thrown an error, but does feel get a but weird and hesitate on me sometimes after getting on it, he said to only bring it if it fail .... =l
But then again, BMW's letter does say they will reimburse you if you have paid out of pocket lol, might do that

thats funny. I just took my car in for an oil change and they performed two recalls, 1. replaced both HPFP, 2. replaced the pump in the fuel tank. I got a letter for the fuel tank pump but was unaware of the HPFP recall. I have a May/2011 build date.
Worst part about all this is that I never had any issues outside of rough start up. I drove the car 50 miles after the work was done and got my first drive train malfunction. Stayed on after several start ups so I took it back in today. I'll keep you all posted on what they broke or forgot to screw in. |

My production date of 10/10 doesn't fall under the recall and even though I constantly complain about the hesitation in higher gears (especially in comfort mode) they won't look into a replacement.
On a positive note my night vision failed and was covered under CPO |

My SA said he has had a few cases like this already. Apparently the pumps are 50/50 after install. Thanks BMW insert middle finger. |

Any update ? My 550 just got a drivetrain malfunction message and it said "fuel supply". Have a feeling it's my fuel pump. Unfortunately I don't have a warranty and my cars build date is 2010 so I hope they cover the fuel pump under this recall if I push them a bit.
