check engine light
Does the key fob store error codes? Will an error code associated with the check engine light be readable on the key fob? Just wondering if I can stop by a dealer and have someone read the key to quickly check it without making an appointment.

Yes it does. Every time I take my car to the dealer my CA gives me a print out of the info stored in the key fob.

reprogram the remote or remove battery and put it back in
But i think remote syncs every time you start car because remote keeps track of mileage on car. But I don't know if remote removes codes from itself or keep history. This little turd can cause problem. |

What other info does it store?
I popped into a dealer when an engine fan error msg appeared (told me to drive cautiously and seek service assistance). When I arrived at dealer I explained I had been driving normally. The assistant scanned the fob and smirked at me (I just did a quick sprint up the road at peaked at about 110mph). When I saw the look on her face I joked that I was going fast to get more air though the engine. Neither of us sought to confirm or deny....! So, can they seriously see all that info? Max RPM as well?? |
