Almost all dealerships outsource paint work to specialty shops with whom they have a deep relationship. The dealerships remove and replace the painted parts though while simultaneously repairing and other damage. IMO, this is ideal.

Someone mentioned above that BMW corp may not fully go to bat with a dealership, but this has not been my experience. Nor was it my experience when I managed a HD dealership. The supplier of the product being sold has great sway over the dealerships. It's nothing to the parent corp to trim back the yearly allotment to a dealership, they just allocate more to someone else, but the dealership potentially suffers a great impact. So believe me when I tell you that the dealerships do everything possible to play nice and look good to BMW corp.
