Should RTFM but....useful tips from owners list here

A few great BM hidden options have come out recently, so thought it may be nice to create a list, so cut and paste it into your post and add your own for all of us. To start

1 The 8 touch sensitive buttons can save anything from a navigation point, to a tel no to a radio station
2 The 1.5sec hold on the remote to open/close all windows and remote pull in/push out mirrors
3 The resetting of your style of driving. If you want to reset the automatic gearbox change points back to factory, turn on the ignition, do not start the car, press the accelerator for 10 secs, then start the engine.

4 The little white blob is on the arc below the speedo on the MFD, what is it? If you are using satnav it is the indicated range you'll use for your trip. Same on the Black Panel display. In other words you get an indication if you will complete the trip on the range you have and how much fuel to spare at the current mpg.

5 Press the volume button for around 25-30 seconds which will restart the iDrive.
6 Not sure if this is worth mentioning or not (if so theres another few things that pop to my mind) but you can send a message to the car by logging into BMW Connected Drive site.
7 Once the car is switched off pushing the wiper lever up for 5 seconds sets the wipers vertically (this is something to help you replace your wiper blades but i like this feature on rainy days).
8 Go into BMW Online and add an email client to get your emails in your car (needs setting up from the site first), same sections allows for other apps to be installed.

As I travel on the continent a lot I find this useful. You can select hotels and other POIs on Connected Drive using the map function and send the details to the car. For hotels this will give you the Sat Nav details and the telephone number. So, if for example you're running late you can phone the hotel using Bluetooth and let them know. This saves you having to hunt through the POI search on the Nav to find what you are looking for. The one feature missing from this - or at least I can't find out how to do it - is the ability to transfer the information in the message to your address book if it's an address you want to keep.

Only found out today that you can lightly touch the 8 programmable buttons and they show what's been programmed on them at the top of the screen.

Yes I know that ....... but you don't have to actually action them, you can just see what they're programmed to do by just the lightest if touches :-)

As if they were touch-sensitive you mean?

I actually discovered the feature by chance when I went to press a button and at the last minute couldn't remember if I was about to turn off the display or phone the missus.
