Integral active steering
Is there a way to check if the integral active steering is present? I have the code on the delivery list, but I am not able to "see" any movement of the wheels as I can on the front wheels when turning. Is there some "things" inside that can confirm that it is installed?

I don't really notice any change when the back wheels steer either. But having driven a non-IAS car, can say there is a definite difference in the feel of the steering. Especially at low speed. If you think the feature isn't there, ask your salesman to test drive a non-IAS F10. You should feel a big difference in the steering at low speed. It takes much less effort to steer an IAS car around a parking lot compared to a non-IAS car.

In theory, you should be able to turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right and see the rear tires adjust very very slightly. The reason why I say in theory is because the IAS is supposed to engage from zero to 30 for low speed movements. I have not considered testing this, I have IAS on my 550 but never questioned, I will have to check this out as well.
IAS should also be evident just in application, ibimmer is correct in that just on the dealership grounds you should feel a difference between yours and a non IAS BMW when making tight moves. Lastly, its important to realize that IAS is equally beneficial at high speed movements as low and is usually less discussed. My thoughts are because most US drivers never really experience the beauty of IAS at high speeds but they will at low speeds.

I "feel" that it there, but there should be a way to check it. It does not help to ask the dealer, because it is on the delivery papers.
But ony way to check, but then I need help from someone without the IAS. In the menu there is a setting to say that you have snow chains, because then it will deactivate the IAS. I would assume that this menu item will not be there on a car without the IAS. |

there is a section on IAS in the manual, something about a button or idrive setting turning it off/on..
or look up the physical parts on realoem and see if u can see them with a mirror under your car, easy |

The rear wheels will return to center if you are stationary. If you adjust your side mirror downwards and inwards you should be able to see that the wheels are turning.
IAS is great, but it's a little dangerous to move to another car after driving the F10 for a while. I nearly ended up in a ditch when I didn't move the steering wheel far enough |

Oooh, I'll have to try this out in a big parking lot. I was wondering what was going on. I stopped the car with the steering wheel turned all the way to the left, got out and looked. The back wheels looked completely straight.

Just deactivate the IAS on the iDrive by selecting the snow chains option, then go to a parking lot and do U turns and full circles with and without IAS activated - I'm sure you'll notice the difference. Did you order IAS without testing both? - gutsy move

I ordered IAS without trying it. Of course, I ordered the car back when there weren't any on the lots yet so... I guess I'm nuts.

Remember, at maximum the offset from centre straight is only 3 degrees, so it will be hardly noticable.
