Extended F10 black panel display coming to USA !

I just configured a 5 series on bmwusa and the display changed appearance after adding HUD. See the pics.

Those who ordered HUD should consider delaying the production of their car to week 9 (March 2011) to get this beautiful new display.

Ideally, new display should come when you don't want HUD as who's gonna look at the panel when you have HUD?!

So it looks like the put in the extended TFT display screen, but they did not use the blacked out numbers on the dials from 7 series and GT.

I still don't think this is the full black panel as described in the sales brochure for US models. I have a week 47 build (delivered 12/23), and the dashboard (with HUD) matches what you have in this picture. The true "full black" that is described as only 3D rings displayed when off is not what is shown above (my opinion), but exactly what I have in my 535iX.

I think your right. This is the extended black panel not the full black panle that they have in the brochure. They should really change the brochure. It's false advertising.

So are the new changes in 3/11 for the f10 going to be a FULL BLACK PANEL or an EXTENDED BLACK PANEL (as shown in the pics)?

Also, will you need to get the HUD to get either of these?

The problem is that they use the term "black panel" very loosely. They also call current F10's dash "black panel", as well as the display at the climate controls. And Euro specs may differ from US specs. So we probably won't find out until March build cars actually arrive.

Here is confirmation that it only comes with HUD in the UK. Given that HUD remains at £980 I guess its a good deal but I would much preferred to order it seperately which is not an option.

Perhaps it is a "full black" panel that is pictured because if you look close the rings are not 3D at the bottom.

I have what's supposed to be the new, extended black panel with models produced after 10/2010. It gives more info than just a small box between the speed/tachometers, but not like the GT or what the sales brochure cites. I wrote to BMWUSA and cited my disappointment, and a very nice, well spoken individual called me back -- who clearly has no knowledge of the product vs. the brochure. I told him to take a brochure to a dealership and sit in a 535i before he speaks with anymore BMW customers.

This is a nit as the car is great, and the greyish box isn't as asthecially appealing as what the GT has, but I'll deal with it. Other things I miss on the 2011 vs. 2008 are the side bolsters, 3-beep Memo before the hour, easy-stick cruise control that's been on every car since 198x, and the passenger-side windshield wiper that cleared the entire windshield. Not sure why these things were eliminated, but I'm guessing it's in the spirit of future year "enhancements".

except, at least, the E39, which had a bunch of random buttons on the steering wheel. For some reason BMW can't stop screwing around with major and minor controls. At least my E92 has a stalk for the cruise, even if it is in the wrong side. While they're about it, they might as well switch the pedals around some too.

This update in the dashboard was part of the September changes for the F10. At least that's what I got from my SA. I'm pretty sure he was right

Yes. It is you. You probably weren't that good at that game where you have to identify what was different between two seemingly identical photos

Look closely. There is a difference especially between the speedometer and tachymeter rings.

I have left side -- althought configurator on bmwusa.com and sales brochure indicated I should have had the one on the right for post October production. Even the guy I spoke to at BMW NA thought I should have the "right side" one, but he was little help beyond that.

So is there a definitive answer on what panel size the current build U.S. F10's are getting and if they are getting the old style still, which date are the new ones supposed to be in U.S. builds?
