Tire choice - PSS vs. A/S 3
So I've geeked out on tire reviews over the past few days looking for a performance oriented tire with ride quality being at the top of my priority list. I like to take the occasional corner pretty hard but I spend much more time driving over poorly maintained roads (no pot holes, but just rough and choppy).
Note: The car is slightly lowered on KW V2's to a tight 2 finger gap and running on the stock OEM 19" 351m rims. I've narrowed the choices to these two tires(Bridgestone S04's and Conti DW summer tires are also possibilities, but focusing on Michelin right now). PSS: Guys rave about Michelin PSS, but my concern is that the professional reviews give the PSS relatively low ride quality scores. Nothing really bad, but that it rides stiff and is just ok on rough pavement - all understandable for a high performance tire. Crazy levels of grip though, although I can't imagine ever pushing my car to the PSS limits. A/S 3: Yes, it's an all-season tire which I don't need here in Coastal Southern California, but reviews say its closer to a Summer UHP tire than a typical all-season UHP, yet more comfortable (although not the most comfortable UHP). Handling and cornering scores are best in category but certainly behind the PSS. Soooooo, any thoughts about this choice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I have PSS and it really does make a big difference over the stock Goodyears. Smoother ride and tons more grip in the corners. My only complaint is they are a bit noisier, but after a day or so I got used to it.

The Goodyears are ok when cruising on smooth roads, but I feel like I'm driving a dump truck (as another member once put it) when I hit bad patches of road) - really harsh. A low profile tire can only do so much but I'm looking for a significant increase in ride comfort.
What's given me pause is the Tire Rack staff giving the PSS a pretty low ride comfort score, but users tell an opposite story, and Consumer Reports gives the PSS a better than average ride comfort score. There's no way I'm overthinking this. Nope, not a chance |

I haven't put PSS on my F10 (yet) but I've run PSS and PS2 on other platforms (E46, E90, E39) and love them to death. I have more comfort issues with my non-sport suspension F10 on runflat LS2s than PSS/PS2 on 704 or 223 sport suspension cars.

I can confirm that the harshness (dump truck feeling) is gone once I switched from the LS2 to the PSS. I really was surprised how much of a difference there was moving to the PSS.

Thanks for all of your help!
Since you guys were subtly hinting that the PSS might possibly be the best choice I ordered them from Tirerack tonight. Costco isn't offering $70 off this month on Michelin, but TireRack is, so a little bonus that covers the shipping. The tires are being drop-shipped to a local installer that has a leverless machine. This one, in fact: Thanks again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noPcIm2vMMA |

Congrats. I've had 2 sets of PSS on my 535 and they are wonderful. Good ride quality and stick like hell. Definitely saved my bacon when I had to make an evasive maneuver to avoid a vehicle. The performance on these is a great fit for these cars.

The PSS is not the best in wet cold, but I guess that' anot a problem i California.

Not typically. The average temperature here along the coast is in the high 50's fahrenheit during the "winter" months , and not much rain - far too little rain lately. I'll certainly need to be careful on those rare occasions when the temps drop down into the 40's in the early morning to make sure the tires are warmed up before any spirited driving, but the car is garaged so that shouldn't be much of an issue.
