But you've prompted me that, when I do take better pictures, I'll look for something more representative of my locale than some nice buildings. Quote:

OK, I usually keep quiet on "frozen" picture threads and I absolutely mean no disrespect Cairo Kid, but I feel that somebody has got to school me on why frozen colors look so good to just about everybody but me. Is it because I am just too old to appreciate it? For me frozen paint just looks like it was neglected and has an old car patina in need of a shine. In Gray or Black, to me they just look like it they are painted with primer and they couldn't afford a decent paint job yet. If they're dirty, they look like old brokedy-broke goonie-goo-goo mobiles to me. When I see a car like Lacster's, clean, shiny and unique, I think "wow, that's a beautiful car" , and I really want to know what I'm missing with frozen colors (I love your blue, but I've got an urge to buff the Hell out of it)
Again, I mean no disrespect, I think everybody has different tastes and should do what they want, I just want to know what I'm missing. Somebody, please enlighten me on why frozen is so beautiful to everybody but me.

Different sheen than gloss. Think of Christmas ornaments. (If that makes sense lol)
Just because something is NOT glossy doesn't mean it doesn't have visual appeal. Matte is a newer look on cars... Which apparently you don't like. No big deal. That's why they make choc and vanilla. Personally, I think the matte looks great as it's got a unique (for cars still) sheen to it. I just don't have the time to maintain it on my daily.

The BMW Frozen colors are not matte. As PhilT alluded to, they are more like the name suggests; "frosted". Think of a BMW Deep Sea or Imperial Blue with a normal glossy clear coat, now imagine what it would look like with a thin frosty covering. The coating is partially light absorbing so you still get a shine subject to the light conditions. Also, as with many BMW paint jobs, it's very rich and appears to take on different colours during day, night, overcast, indoor environments. As to why I chose this colour. This car in particular is a personal expression for me. In conjunction with my BMW dealer, we went through every single option and it was built just for me. It's mine through and through. I chose the frozen paint job with the m sport package and black wheels on a 550i base because although it can be refined, well-behaved and elegant, it can also be aggressive when the need arises. This theme also runs inside the car with the alcantara/cloth interior, aluminum hexagon trim, ceramic coating for controls and m performance pedals. The exhaust system is the next item due for upgrade. I wouldn't worry about it if you never like frozen colours (please note, though that they're not matte and if you get a chance to see one in person, it would be better). Different people have different tastes, sometimes they change and sometimes not (i used to think double-breasted suits were the cat's meow, go figure). I do agree that Lacster's cars are awesome though. |

Thanks Cairo Kid. You must have a younger soul than I.
I think I'll have to pay more attention to frozen in person when it's looking right. The only ones I've seen in person are black (which looked like it was in a field fire and got completely charred) and a frozen Bronze Metallic at my dealership which looked like, um, well I'd rather not say. I would love to see your blue one in person, it might sway me to the frozen-side!

Variety is the spice of life! At the end of the day, we are all here because we appreciate fine automobiles. It would be boring if they were ALL the same. Let's all sing; Koom-bi-ya and hold hands now... Lol.

When done in a mutually respectful way, it's all the better. Nothing wrong with a little koom-bi-ya, but i don't know about the hand holding. Thank you, much appreciated. I'm still considering what to do with the grilles. My initial thoughts were to replace them immediately with the black ones. Oddly enough, the stock ones aren't actually that bad in person. I want to wait till i replace the stock exhaust (i'm planning on schnitzer quad tip exhaust which is also chrome) and the rear diffuser then see how it all fits together. |

I was thinking of ordering the same paintwork but here in Russia this paintwork will stay alive until the first drive only because of climate and traffic conditions.
No idea about the place where do you live but be careful with that especially during washings. I had a lot of conversations with BMW colouring engineers about this paintwork and my conclusion about it - it's a pain. No I don't mean you need to treat it daily but any glitch or some damage or even pressure applied to it will damage it hard and ofcuz any damage to that paintwork will lead to to re-finish of a whole part. There might be a lot of problems with re-finishing. Especially when the paint is not new. |

Caused by that "absorbtion" effect the final coat is somewhat fading in a very different ways. Another thing is that this paint should be treated carefully. Do not apply any type of pressure to a paint. No polishing and so on...
But in desert climate ... I think it's going to fit it perfect. GL with that car. Anyways looks stunning. |
