Has anyone here who uses the BMW Remote app (has the vehicle finder, climate, horn, etc functions) found that it stopped working? For some reason mine has randomly stopped working. The app, itself, still loads and works fine, but after trying to perform any function, it comes back and says there was a data transfer error (usually takes several minutes).

It's not a super valuable app, but a nice little novelty - I'd like to figure out why it suddenly stopped working.

I get that data transfer error occasionally and just try the function again and it works.

It worked flawlessly for a while - now it only gives the error message... Wonder if I need to manually update it again. For some reason I'm not able to download it via the Play store. I had to manually install the APK to my phone the first time around. Perhaps they've updated it and made my version irrelevant.

Out of curiosity, can you download the app directly to your device? If so, do you have an Android of iOS phone? I have an Android phone, and if I go to the play store it'll say that the app isn't available in my country and/or for my device. Last time I had to download and install it manually, so I don't believe it auto updates now. That may be part of the problem - but I'm unsure why it won't allow me to just download it directly.

it stopped working for me too. i just downloaded the "send to car" app from the google play store and at least i can send address from my phone to the cars nav.

Do you have the Android version or iOS? As I said in my above message, I had to manually install the app on my Android a while back - the app store wouldn't let me download it directly, saying it wasn't available in my country (US). It worked just fine after installing it manually... but not any longer. I see that the version in the app store looks updated, and the release notes do mention a new "server interface" - so I'm wondering if something has changed on the BMW server side of the equation, and the new app is necessary. If so, I need to figure out how to manually get a copy of the APK again and install it. Either that or run my Internet connection through a proxy in another country to fool the Google Play store into allowing me to download it.

Yes I can download it directly to the device. I have an iPhone and usually get prompted when there's an update. At that point I can decide to upgrade or not.

android. i found the APK somewhere on this site a while back and it worked in the beginning. TBH, i dont really miss it that much. the send to car app works better than the bmw remote app

Started to dig a bit. Threads elsewhere on the Internet confirming what I thought. Looks like the US version of the android app worked until more recently where BMW changed something on the server side. Looks like us US-based android users are going to need to wait until BMW fixes this for us... or should I say, puts it out officially to begin-with. What a shame that such a great car company can't write simple mobile applications.

I had the same problem. Galaxy Note 3, android 4.4.2, and running an older version of My BMW Remote (1.7) that would give me a transmission error every time I tried to run a remote command. So I did some research and found the link to the apk file for version 1.8: http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/27205998/file.html

I don't have my car with me right now so I can't test this to see if it works. So maybe you can give it a try and report back.

I found v1.8 and tried it - no luck. Looks like the play store has v2.0 (June release date) - maybe someone here has it or can get it and provide a link?

FWIW, My iOS US version 2.8 is working ok except for the occasional "transfer failed"

I will look to see what version I have in my archives ... I moved away from android a year or two ago to the iOS devices ... but I should still have a working version (that includes remote unlock) for Android which I snagged from the Non-US-Market Android Play Store

Mine used to have remote horn and lights. Now it only has Locking/Unlocking.

The app is pretty useless without the other two especially the lights which is awesome when parked somewhere at night trying to locate your car... But also it is supposed also to be able to turn on the AC (loads of US manufacturers offer this) doesn't do that either.

Horn, headlights and climate (as well as lock -- unlock only happens through calling BMW Assist) are all working on mine. I'm using the Android app, though, and my car is a '14 535ix.
