Adding Rear View Camera?

I just picked up my 2013 535i xDrive (only took five weeks from the day I ordered it!), and quickly realized that I made a mistake in not ordering the rear view camera. Here's my question: I have found a brand new BMW F-10 camera and was wondering if anyone knows if the car already has the wiring harness in place and all I need to do is install the camera to make it operational? I'd rather stick with a genuine BMW system rather than an aftermarket. I know that for some options (phone cradle, cd changer, etc.) the harness is already in place and you simply add the component and I'm hoping this is the case here.

It's more than likely not in the vehicle. The vehicle's wiring harnesses are built (by hand) in various configurations depending on options in the car. For something like rear view camera it won't be there because it requires connections to 12V power, FlexRay/CAN bus, CIC head unit, the camera control module, and the camera itself. The latter 2 items won't be in the car.

These cars aren't like older generation vehicles where the car was pre-wired (and had the labels on the trunklid indicating so.)

check BMW Accessories

On the basis BMW Accessories have this as a after factory fit, and Dealers are in a position to add Camera, I guess all cables are in for an add-on.

Catfish - in relation to retrofitting a rear view camera onto your vehicle, BMW dealers have a retrofit kit they can order for retrofitting to vehicles that have a business nav or professional nav CIC. The retrofit package includes the rear view camera module that provides for object detection and parking tracers along with the camera. If you ordered your BMW without it, you'll likely not have the wiring in place and the module for just a mere attachment of the camera.

I was told this at my bmw dealer when i took delivery of my f10. unfortunately they wanted to charge me 2,100 for retrofit and i decided I could live without the rear view camera so long as the PDC was working. Annoys me to no end that a rear view camera doesnt come standard in vehicles of this price range.

Thanks everyone. It appears I am going to live without it. Never had it before, so I'm kind of used to it! And I agree with evilbear8: Very annoying a high-end car doesn't come standard with this!

Thanks for confirming what I stated above. The wiring isn't there.

In the US rear view cameras are soon to become law.

Correct, there is no wiring, but the OEM rear view camera retrofit we are offering includes all parts required to perform this retrofit. It is a DIY project if you are handy...

Is it really that without it? As somebody mentioned I know it will soon become a law for new cars, so I wonder if there will be more retrofit options in the near future.

I have recently retrofitted a OEM Rear View Camera in my 2011 F10 MSport from Patrys@BimmerTech.

I am very happy with it and with the service I received from Patryk.
It is not that difficult to install and re-wire with the instructions provided.
