2014 BMW 535d US owners unite
I'll most probably end up leasing a 2014 535d in December, so I was thinking we need a thread where the US diesel heads should sign-in - giving that it would be such a niche buy.
Also if you test drove the car or you already placed an order ... come out of the closet. No matter what your parents taught you, there's no shame in diesel love

There is (almost) none. It's just the lb-ft: 260 vs 420 and the in motion acceleration which smashes the 528i. Even if the 0 - 60 it's the same on paper, the diesel feels worlds faster.

http://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/
According to this information diesel is more expensive than petrol/gas in the usa. Also the 530d is 7000$ more expense than 528i (same performance). Now I totally miss the point about driving a diesel in the usa? Here in Belgium we are forced by fiscal regulation to drive diesel, since driving a big petrol engine(+200bhp) is totally irrational and fiscal suicide. Only thing I can say is don't give up on these wonderful petrol engines if driving them is cost-effective. Be aware how privileged you are in the usa to drive Munich's finest petrol artillery!

Well i guess in USA only rich drives diesel. Haha!! In Malaysia its the other way round. But I would really appreciate if our incompetent. Government could intro diesel Euro 4-5 so that we can enjoy Munich diesel rocket. Like 530d and 535d. What we have is only 520d due to our Euro 2M quality.

Signing in here. Ordered a 535d back in August. It's estimated to arrive late October. Hopefully, it'll get here on time. I chose the diesel simply due to the better mpg and possible longevity of the diesel engine. Oh, and the torque isn't too shabby either.

Right now, where I am, diesel is $4.00/gallon. Reg. gas is $3.40. That's makes diesel 17.5% more expensive and more difficult to find. Is it really worth it?

took delivery of my 535D last week
This is my 5th BMW and it replaces a 2010 535xi.
I love the car.! It moves off the line with much more confidence and highway acceleration seems very similar to the previous car. Fuel economy with 50/50 city highway and 600 miles is 30.4mpg. Sometimes gentle, sometimes hard driving. Over the course of a year, there are times premium is more or less than diesel in the midwest, but generally slightly less on average. But gas savings alone are not a reason to buy the D. They are there - my old 2010 535xi averaged about 22 mpg vs 30 with same driving style. I just think the 535d is more fun in city driving. It compares to the 550

Placed order in July on an Individual 535d, still waiting.
I thought it's a real 313hp model first, then found out it's rebadged 530d and still kept the order. I had petrol F10 V6 (EDIT: L6), naturally aspirated E60 V8, both 306hp, but none felt as fast as 2003 E46 330d 3 liter diesel with just 204hp (in city driving 0-80mph). That's why I'm going back to diesel for now. Feels faster and always has the right RPM and gear, no need to push it and downshift all the time to get the torque. F10 it's the latest 5 Series and the petrol is an I6, not a V6 And it's RWD. The E60 V8 was the 545i w/330hp or 550i w/ 360hp, none of them had 306hp.

Sorry, I meant L6.
I lived in Europe before. There was an E60 LCI 540i model with a V8 naturally aspirated, 225kW (306 HP). Engine N62 TU. I liked how natural that engine was. At speeds of 100 mph+, it was a monster. It seemed like there's no limit. But it didn't have enough low end torque for city driving. In low speed accelerations it felt sluggish compared to a 150kW E46 diesel.
