Car prices in Asia is about 300% of prices in US due import tax and other misc taxes.

OP iDrive screen is smaller most probably it does not have Navigation. I don't think BMW made different screen sizes for kicks.

It depends on the options. Here in Canada if you order the on-board Navigation on the 535 you get the larger 10.2" display (included in the Executive Package) otherwise you get the smaller 7". The 550 has the On-board Navigation as a default, therefore it gets the 10.2" display.

Are you referring to Singapore? If so, we do not have such restrictions.

Understand now, you are talking about what we call 'weekend cars' with the red license plates.

These are for owners who want to pay a slightly lower tax on their car, if they choose this scheme...they can only use their car on the roads from 7pm-7am on weekdays and all day on weekends.

It is not really very popular nowadays as it can prove to be inconvenient.

How much cheaper is it? If only a little..

I think HK is going SG's way.. after the surprise First Registration (sales) tax increase, i think we will get increases every yr or so until we get a lot more expensive and closer to SG .. a base 3series or C class is still only USD50k.. HK has no way to control the growth of cars, esp lower taxed ones, and no ERP

It is not unusual to take a 10 year loan on a car in Singapore.
But at least the bodies will hold up that long since you dont have snow (and hence no salt).

That's quite accurate, I have just gotten my dealer to reduce the price by 7%. They were not happy initially, but got over it quickly. I have gotten 4700 OFF on a 535i with Exec Package.

My brother just bought a new F10 535i in Vietnam and it cost him 110-120k cash, definitely not as bad as SG and HK but here in the US we can lease those for what would be considered chump change.

For that kind of cash money, what's stopping you from buying in here in the states and actually paying someone with a empty-haul jet to fly it back into Singapore? Surely you could find someone in the US willing to do that for $25K + costs associated with the trip.

Because most of those extra costs are actually taxes or tariffs that would also apply to an imported car.

Besides, US steering wheels are on the WRONG side of the vehicle

You may think SGD is bad, but Malaysia is worse. I am driving a BMW 523 and it cost me RM395K (USD132K) including insurance. Though the price is almost the same in SGD (after converting to USD), but in Malaysia, salary range is almost the same with Singapore.

If you're earning RM6K in Malaysia, you could be earning SGD6K (+- 5-10%) in Singapore but SGD dollar is much stronger comparing with Malaysia Ringgit...
