Battery Replacement

My battery needs to be replaced and I was initially planning to get it done myself but the last mechanic I talked to told me he couldn't do it because the battery needs to be registered to that car. Does this mean, I can no longer change my car's battery? I have a 2011 F10.

that is correct. You have to go to the dealership to get your batteries now

...or you can replace your battery and then go to the dealer to have it registered. I think my dealer charged me $65 to register it last time.

How did you get the car to dealership without a working battery? You had it towed?

Or does it run even before it is registered?

The car will run without the battery being registered. My understanding is that the registration is needed for the charging cycle. I don't remember the details but I drove for a week or so before registration and had no issues.

Seems like a scam having to pay to have a battery registered to your car.

My dealer actually quoted me at close to $700 for a battery replacement. Can you believe that? In what world does replacing a battery cost close to $1000?

In the end, I was able to get it done at a local shop for $320 but they use interstate batteries. I'm not sure how well those stack up against the dealer batteries but I don't care since they come at half the cost and carry the same warranty as the dealer battery.
