Expansion tank blues

Coming up on 100k miles and looks like the F10 suffers from the dreaded leaky expansion tank also. My e46 tank would split down the side like some of the other models. But this one started to leak at the seam. Small drip but I noticed it coming from in front of my right left tire. Thought the inter cooler got a puncture!

Don't follow my quick patch cause nothing sticks to the polycarbonate stuff! It was just to get home and then it started to drip again. And don't mess with it! The 200$ for a new bottle is not worth your engine !!!

Waiting for the new part in a few hours.

Hmm, I wonder if ECS tuning will have an aluminum expansion tank as they did for other models - like the E60, which had the same issue. It never happened to me, but I haven't had a car with over 100k miles in many years.

Was it leaking? Looks like it's pretty straight forward to replace? I agree with PJinCA, SEE if there's an aluminium one available

Yes. Right at the seam. No alternatives yet. Can't really see a demand for them yet. Looked online and not much buzz. I must be the first one ! Lol. Easy repair. 15min.

your car should have overheated every time you drove.
not enough pressure to activate thermostat due to leak.
had same thing happened on my fathers cadillac.

thermostat works on heat not pressure. I would have got the low coolant warning also before overheating
