Any issues using F01 wheels as a winter set up?
As the winter approaching Im in the market for a winter set up for my recently bought 535i -11.
Been looking on ebay.de for a used square 19 set up but the best deals in that category are F01 wheels. Lots of 19" F01 winter wheels available with a square set looking like this 245/45 8.5 et 25 et 25 in the front should be ok but Im worried about the rears, I think the rears should be fine considering the non aggressive 245, 8.5 set up but Im not sure. I know the sidewalls are slightly thicker then the recommended 245/40 and the speedometer might be slightly off but can stuff like edc etc cause any possible issues? thanks Last edited by rille31; 09-06-2017 at 02:58 AM.. |

I would look for 245/50/18, but those will fit fine.
you want a thicker sidewall for your winter set. if you are looking for a good all-around winter tire, I recommend the Yokohama IG52c, personally tested on my RWD f10 and approved |

Good call. I'm running 245/50/18s with my Nokian Hakkepeliittas on my xDrive and they are amazing in snow (through three Ottawa winters and one trip in the Swiss alps).

this video here should give you a good idea of how balanced this chassis is in slick conditions |

xDrive simply gives you added traction off the line and thats about it. the balance and predictability you are experiencing with your car can be attributed to the RWD based F10 chassis rather then the axles. unless you are driving in very deep snow or in treacherous conditions, you shouldnt let xdrive ruin the fun year-round |

Like I said, you are preaching to the choir. The two other BMWs I've experienced in winter with snow tires are RWD: E39 528i, and E89 Z4. Is RWD more fun? Sure, up to a point. Is it more capable in winter? No. This argument can go round and round, but you don't have to convince me about RWD. We are actually saying the same thing except I do not think xDrive has ruined my fun year-round. Cheers.
