Depends on how it failed ( No pumping at all or reduced pumping) And how long it ran after the pump failed. Ive seen a couple models over the years have a failed pump replaced and the engine to go on many many many years without problems

Havent heard of any N55 ones going, but they are pretty complex pumps and if the simple old style ones can break then so can the new ones.
Any details on what happened ? What were the warnings, how quickly was the engine turned off after the failure

I believe all BMWs should have redundant oil/water/fuel pumps. Even Data Center servers have redundant processor, hard drives, NIC, and power supplies. I mean, they're single point of failure.
How did you hear about this issue? |

I had a engine malfunction last week. Message said "engine malfunction, reduced power. you can continue driving, but once you stop the engine, it will not start. contact BMW assist or near dealer" something like that.
I drove home, parked, turned engine off. It won't start. It makes the sound of dead battery and won't start, a knocking sound. Dealer sent tow truck. Took to the dealer. They suspect there is problem with fuel pump or oil pump, I can't remember which one they said. Later they told me they just reprogram the computer and fixed it. They never actually told me what the problem was. |
