535i exhaust

Got my new 640i (same engine as the 535) last week and have just noticed that the RH tailpipe is completely clean, whereas the LH shows signs of moderate usage. Also noticed that immediately after a run of 30 miles the the RH tailpipe is completely cold.
Still running-in and haven't exceeded 3k RPM so I'm guessing that it's a split system and that the other half only cuts in above a certain RPM. Looking underneath I notice a distinct difference in the mufflers - the LH is a large rectangular box and the RH is a tubular in-line unit. Can anyone confirm my reasoning or offer a different explanation?
Thanks

Your reasoning is sound. Give it beans and both will open.

Thanks for confirming; now that I know what to anticipate, the only problem will be restraining my right foot before the car's run-in!

I know, I know and seeing as I'll probably be changing it in 3 years time, I shouldn't be bothered about breaking it in as carefully as I am.
Trouble is that it's hard to forget 43 years in aviation engineering and I just can't be cruel to metal!

Our new F48 is the same, the one exhaust will only operate once the car has warmed up and above certain revs. I think it's an emissions based set up
