Drive train malfunction?

2012 520d at around 80k now, had the malfunction message pop up on the screen twice in the past week alongside the daunting orange engine management light. First time i saw engine management light, I turned car off and on and engine management light went off, second time its stayed on

message says 'drivetrain, continue journey at moderate speed. full performance not available. have problem checked by service', only popped up twice so far, once when under hard acceleration on motorway and once tonight cruising around 50mphish, both times did not notice any difference in the cars power speed or anything.

Maybe unrelated note, after a car wash last week i drove to my flat and was waiting outside for my girlfriend to come out, must've been idling for 10 minutes or so and it almost felt like every 30 seconds or so there was a slight shudder, i also noticed some white smoke coming out of the top of the bonnet closest to windscreen, immediately turned off engine and checked under the bonnet and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, when it did cool down i checked coolant level and whatnot and it hadn't decreases, no coolant marks anywhere in the bay that indicated a leak, hasn't happened before and hasn't happened since and so I just made the assumption that some left over water from car wash was evaporating as i had been hard on the accelerator on the way back, could be related? possibly not?

Im stumped and have no clue, im away from home at uni for the next 3 days and so will drop by my indy bmw specialist when back, but until then unsure, anyone had any experiences?

Mine required new plugs and could, hence the stuttering, no smoking. Good luck. Hasn't been an issue since?.

I'm quite certain his 520d doesn't need sparkplugs.
