so just got my 2011 550i but mine was made march 2010. My maps are 2010. Is there anyway to update this unit?

Your post's title is an indication that you have an older communications module and cannot update your Bluetooth or Media software. You can update your Nav maps. The absence of the "Software update" option in iDrive is relevant only to the BT and media components.

A friend was in a similar situation and he was able to update his nav data to 2014. He got his nav update done, himself, with no problem. Please PM me if you have any questions about the details of my friend's situation and solution.

I am also looking at updating my navigation software and have the older firmware in my car. (2011 535i)
