importing contacts via Bluetooth - what am I missing?
My Android phone connects fine via Bluetooth, my messages appear too and I can make (via recent calls list) and receive calls. I can also browse contacts when browsing the phone BUT every time I try to make a call through the voice command "Phone book" the car responds with "phone book is empty" which I take to mean that contacts are not being imported to the car's system.
So what am I doing wrong?

Yeah I do think the system is better integrated with iOS, although I do not understand why importing the phone book is not an explicit option in the menu. My dad's E300 has a very clear menu for importing and deleting contacts, both from multiple phones. When you import contacts it even asks if you want to merge two phone books or overwrite.
I am on HTC One X, ICS. I would try it with my wife's iPhone but I don't want to run the risk of the car importing her contacts into the system and me stranded with a gazillion contacts I will never call and having to eventually sort them manually. I have yet to try importing through a USB but I figured the phone pairing should be followed by phone book import seamlessly.

For voice dialing to work, you must save each contact saying "Save Name".
It works only for the contacts you record this way, and not for every contact from the phonebook. |

Oh...really?! So I say "save name" and then spell out the name and number verbally? There is no way to transfer contacts from phone to system automatically?

I think there is an extended voice command option that gives you much more control, not only over the phone, but also the navigation and multimedia, but if you haven't purchased it, I'm afraid this is the only way.

Yeah I didn't order the extended voice control option, I was concerned my non-Western accent would be an issue.
