'11 535i MSport - Oil Change Intervals - Have They Changed

I just picked up my new 535i M-Sport today after waiting 2 1/2 months for it. It's a week 43 build. Wow....what a car. It drives so nice..... I'm still busy trying to figure out all the settings and controls.

One of the things I noticed right away was that the service indicator shows that the first oil service is at 8000km (5000 miles). My car currently only has 76 km on the odometer. That is certainly different from my old E60 and unless I'm missing something, is different from what everyone else has indicated.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this? Has BMW changed the oil service interval?

I've also attached a pic of my new toy.

Firstly great colour and Car, mines the same colour on order.
Your answer is NO change to servicing. SO you have a problem!! the Oil quality sensor ( or what ever tests oil quality) is "Miss reading" the car in NO way should need a service that quick especially having done no miles. sorry get it looked at .

You could wait and see if it changes. The least the "techs" touch your car the better it is - and if the maintenance is included then you will get an early oil change which is never a bad thing

Thanks everyone for the info on the oil. I will ask service about this.... If they advise anything else, I will post.

Here are a few more pics. You'll notice I debadged the car as I really like the clean look (I did the same thing to my E60). The car also came with smoked chrome exhaust tips. A surprise as I was expecting regular chrome ones but I really like them.

I believe that's the standard first service interval for the new 5 series in Canada.

Jlgwu,

My car is showing roughly the same service interval. I have 1,900 miles right now and is telling me that the first service is due in 4,800 miles. I think this is normal. You will probably notice that the "Service Due" indicator will read the same miles for a time. Mine did not change untill I got to roughly 1,700 miles.

For reference, my Canadaian 535xi, delivered Nov. 1st, has about 2,000 kms and the first service is showing due in more than 20,000km.

Thanks for the nice comments. Much appreciated!

I will check with my dealers service dept next week to ask about the reading. It really doesn't sound right after what everyone has described. I will report back on their reply.
