Would BMW consider fixing the throttle response lag on F10's

As I was reading more about the various reviews around F10/535, it became obvious that almost every review stated the same issues around the car's performance. The common theme was the throttle response and how long it took the car to actually start accelerating. Obviously, Audi A6 in most of the review came out the winner and I'm disappointed that BMW has not addressed this yet. What I would like to know is if there are enough complaints to BMW NA, they would actually consider releasing some kind of software update to address this issue. It would be kind like installing maybe a JB Stage 2 kit (not that I've tried it myself yet but I'm just going by the blogs out there).

If anyone is familiar and/or know of such process, let me know and I can get the ball rolling... I guess I should have done my homework with test driving the competition before jumping into the 535

My 2013 has zero throttle lag in Sport mode. Eco and comfort mode was designed to have throttle lag.

that's strange... I have a 2012 Feb build and just got the most recent software update but still seem to have the lag. I guess I need to follow-up with the dealer to make sure it's addressed. Thx for the feedback guys.

I have a 2012 and in comfort mode, it does have throttle lag. In sports, sports + its is quicker but still responds different then my 07 335i witch I know could take out the present day A6.

I will be test driving a 2012 535 with June build to see the difference today.

I think there is a lag regardless of the build date... It was obvious today after test driving a car with June build that the car truly has a 1 to 1.5 seconds of lag before the car actually start to accelerate hard. I'm surprised to hear Alan state he has zero lag.

Let me also be clear on what I mean by lag... you're at a full stop and you punch it, that's where I notice the lag, its not while the car in motion.

Maybe that's just the way it is and I have to accept it...

Mine's only the 520d (2012 with Sport Auto) but the lag is a nightmare from a standstill and on the move.

BMW won't accept it's a problem though. My dealer says it drives like that on all of them and is apparently down to the torque converter disengaging when it's stationary - the delay is the time taken to re-engage.

The throttle delay when the car's still moving is because the gearbox wants to keep as high a gear as possible for as long as possible to keep the MPG high - comfort or sport mode.

All sounds plausible but as far as I'm concerned the throttle delay ruins an otherwise fantastic car. It's unlikely I'll have another one.

When you guys say throttle lag, what exactly are you referring to? On my 528 he max torque clearly kicks in at 1500+ rpm. My biggest complain is the 1-2 second lag that occurs when I put the pedal to the floor from ~20mph.

If I'm in traffic going, say 20 mph, and I want to go around someone to get through a yellow (Exact scenario yesterday) I pulled my car in to the other lane at about 15 mph, put the pedal to the floor, and waited.... 1-2 seconds later, i shot to 40 mph in no time.

Is this experience similar to what you guys are having? I bought my car 3 weeks ago, the manufacture date was June of 2012.

in my case, it's both, off the line take off as well as passing response. I'm guessing the JB Stage 2 might address one of the issues but I'll have to have it installed to prove it. I still think BMW should address this...

I don't see you answering the question.......what mode are you driving in?

Mine has a "lazy" response in COMFORT and NORMAL. However, in SPORT and SPORT+ it's pretty much immediate.

What mode are you driving in?

Seajack, I'm talking the same as you.

Real world scenario - you're stationary waiting to turn, a car flashes you to go you hit the throttle and everything goes into slow motion, the car doesn't move then suddenly it's warp drive! The delay is only momentary but it feels like an age.

Likewise, as you find, you pull out hit the throttle and again there's thinking time before the power kicks in.

Once it's going it's fine, it's just the time taken to get going that's the problem.

Mine is better in Spot/Sport+ than Comfort, but only better - not right!

to eliminiate this (1-2 seconds of lag), for quicker response tap the car into sport and rpms instantly shoot up. So while going 15 mph tap to the left and the car will already be accelerating. Head jolt also comes with it. Its quite nice.

I bought my 535 to be a "luxo-cruiser" daily driver with good gas mileage and intended to install a Dinan software upgrade, intake and exhaust as soon as they were available.......they said 2 to 4 months but that was 18 months ago. When I tire of the lag (every 3-4 days) I take my M5 out and play.

BMW and Dinan just reconfirmed to me last week that they have no software upgrade for the 535 so I am thinking of JB or the Hartge software from Turner (56 HP and 59 ft lbs torque) for $1300.

Anyone have the Hartge software?

bummer... I had the JB stage 1 and it did not help. Maybe stage 2 will work/help.

My car lives in Sport mode unless I'm doing a long motorway cruise (so that it drops into 8th).

It's a terrible drive round town otherwise.

I take my 911 out, just a shame that 95% of my driving is in the 5 these days

I wish BMW would sort this.

The throttle lag on mine has to be the WORST among all the cars that I have driven! I have driven countless rental cars and none of them come close to this bad of a lag. I can live with an underpowered car, but the lag on the F10 is bad to a point that I feel the car is unsafe to drive, especially in traffic!

Yes, switching to sport helps, but it should not be unsafe to drive in normal mode to begin with.

And it's unpleasant to drive in sports mode if you are driving in traffic with the high rpm shift points.

This is how my 2013 535 behaves... Sport/Sport+ combined with the Sports Auto Transmission in Sport mode = IMMEDIATE TAKE OFF AND THROTTLE RESPONSE.

Mine is a 535 i 2011 Dec build M sport. Little lag on comfort and normal which is completly normal depending how you driving, meaning pasive = little lag aggresive = less lag. However Sport and Sport+ no lag whatsoever.
