Buying Warranty

Friday I was meeting friend for lunch it was hot day I notice car started to shake for maybe 2-3 seconds didn't think much of it.
When we finish I headed home try to merge on interstate I punch it pretty hard
car lost power then I got message Drivetrain Malfunction

I stopped turn car off restarted everything was fine. Dealer wasn't far from my location I took car in explain what happened guy had smile on his face I was confused thinking WTF Guy . He mentioned its common to have this error come up. Some people can't drive and they have to get towed some can drive just fine.
Long story short they checked car and found "FAULT THAT WAS SET ON TIME FOR INJECTOR #8" whatever that means didn't replace injector etc...
Well my warranty expires in May 2017 I asked CA to give me quote on extended warranty they offer me Gold 72 months 70k miles $3907.00 is this good deal

Also interested.

I have a CPO that expires May 2017 or 60K miles, whatever i hit first.... can I buy one of these to extend beyond that?

Would prefer a warranty that covers major parts like engine, turbos, etc... stuff that can go wrong

I was at the dealership this past weekend and inquired about warranty. After the initial CPO/warranty expires, there is something called a "wrap up" warranty that extends for 1 more year or 100k miles. They quoted me $3150 for that.

1 more year... for $3k... i doubt a $3K part will go wrong withing 1 year after that for me which would be around the 70K miles range.

NO way I would pay 3k for one year
three years and 75 to 100k mil I wouldn't mind paying $3k

I received the following quote last year from the dealer (my warranty runs out this October):

*7yr/100,000 miles = 5,995 (Platinum) which would roughly give you 4 more years of warranty since in service date was October. One more year of original 4yr/50,000 miles + 3 more years and up to 100,000 miles of extended.

Route 66 was less than half of that quote.

I am leaning toward Route 66, but would really appreciate other's thoughts.

Bill

I just got a 2013 550i and purchased the Route 66 "Easy Street" warranty. 5yrs/100k warranty. $0 deductible and pays for most everything other than wear/tear and stereo. I paid $2706 for it.

Interestingly enough, the dealership that we bought my wife's M4 from doesnt accept the warranty. well...Route 66 wont pay for repairs at that dealership. Its a Penske dealership and Route 66 pays for any repairs at the Penske dealership in Roswell. The one in Gwinnett must just charge too much.

Regardless, there's no way I would've bought this car without the warranty and, comparatively, its pretty damn cheap.

well my car is a 2011 already has the 6/100k miles extended warranty which expires next year. the only option i have through BMW if i want to add warranty is to pay 3k which stretches it for another year / 100k miles.

What other third party warranties do you guys recommend besides route 66? My car has 70k miles im not even sure if they would cover

interested in a warranty recommendation as well. I have one now 4 year up to 100k effective after my factory warranty runs out, but it was from a 3rd party dealer and I have suspicions that its not as complete of a coverage as they claim.

Where can I buy a Route 66 warranty? Just had some major work done on our mbz suv and without the warranty it would have cost over 4k.

I got lucky, dealer messed up and gave me 60k (on top of my miles) or 4/YR for $1,800 (aftermarket warranty, not CPO) - about a week later I had to go in for something irrelevant to my BMW and they told me they screwed up due to a new employee and new manager did the deal but honored it anyway haha

Remember, NONE of the BMW warranties besides the initial new car warranty covers electronics. I understand the engine mechanicals are top priority, but what happens when the iDrive dies? (happened to me in my first 5 series, CPO doesn't cover electronics). That's why when I bought my F10 I got the Route 66 warranty that covers the engine/drivetrain, but it also covers electronics to 120k miles. It cost me $3k but well worth it in my opinion, on my first 5 series that had CCC iDrive the dealer quoted me $2800 to replace, I don;t want to know how much the NBT I ccurrently have would cost.

Do any of you guys with the Route 66 warranties know if they have any terms related to tracking, HPDE, autocross, etc?

Your dealership ever decline accepting your Route 66 ?

You ever have Route 66 give you problems in regards to covering costs of a part ?

CPO may have changed since I had it, however, I would say go ahead and try to get them to cover the NAV system (which consists of the iDrive in our cars) NBT would not be cheap to replace.

I haven't had to use it yet, but even if the dealer doesn't like it there are a bunch of indy shops that accept them.
