I recently purchased a 535i which was pulling to the right and it was quite a hard pull, when I first test drove it. I informed the sales guy, they took it into the workshop after a couple of days when I drove it again it was fine. So I bought it, so there must be a fix for it.

That's good news. I'm supposed to pick my car up tomorrow...will keep my fingers crossed.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

My 550i is still in the shop....recall and this steering issue... been 2 weeks and counting! Supposed to get it back early next week so will see if they "fixed" the steering.

Oh yeah, they're also waiting on another part that needs to be replaced, so my car will need to go back into the shop again once that arrives.

Definitely interested to see how that goes. They've had mine since Wednesday and said it would be ready end of day, maybe Thursday am. I called Thursday pm and they said Friday afternoon. Haven't heard from them yet, so will be interesting to see how long it actually takes.

I am in no rush as I don't want them to rush either. I want it fixed right, and I have a 335i loaner with sport package that's fun to drive, so I'm good now (makes me wish I still had my 2001 330i).

Ok, car was not repaired today.. Was told that the struts were corrected and the car re-aligned. This was part 1 and did not fix it. Tomorrow a tech is coming, from out of state, to update the software (this is part 2). SA stated that part 1 fixes +-80% of the cars...not mine. . Will see how things go tomorrow.

Got mine back today. Not sure yet if it's fixed. Doesn't pull as hard, but still a little. I only drove a few miles home and haven't had a chance to drive in a straight line not in traffic, so I'll have to see if it still pulls tomorrow. They did struts, alignment, and apparently software (some of the interfaces look different, most settings were lost, etc.).

Please let us know how it handles tomorrow.

I'm still waiting for mine to get out of the shop... though I'm not overly encouraged after reading these "it's still pulling right" posts.

Picked up my car and...so far it is corrected. The software upgrade/fix appears to have done the trick.

My new 535ix doesn't have this problem for what it is worth.

Glad you not afflicted by this, but you wouldn't be - the ix's have hydraulic power steering instead of EPS, which is what the 535i's have - and that's the culprit.

Somewhat fixed. It no longer pulls hard to the right. If I let go of the wheel, it stays straight for a little bit (4 or 5 seconds) and then drifts slowly/slightly to the right, but it doesn't pull hard right.

How 'bout "still not fixed drift"?

My F10 is still not fixed so it's staying in shop another week.

This is my exact situation. I initially decided to live with it, but I'm officially fed up with it now. I'm currently in stage 2 of the FL lemon law process, which is the Request for Arbitration. I sent my paperwork into the state last week...so we'll see what happens from here...

HighlandPete, I think FstTrack nailed it more succinctly with his term!

I have a September build, normal 535i (2WD) and my car does not pull to the right. Or left.

Best of luck to all of you guys and gals who are trying to get this fixed!

Sorry to hear about all the guys who are having this problem.

May I ask is this pulling to the right problem connected to the problem that some are reporting regarding vagueness around the centre steering position? Or are they two entirely different issues?

Thanks

Is this an issue on some petrol cars or diesel as well - I have a stock 520d SE auto and havent noticed the wandering issue yet - i don't like the the way its self centres but thats an other story I guess. I used to have a toyota which was very sensitive to road camber and wandered about.

I have a September build 535i SE F11 with Active Drive and 18" wheels.
There's no steering pull.
No vagueness on centre.
No cogging at any speed.
The steering is a bit lighter than on my previous 535d E61 but I've no issue with that at all.
And the best thing is that ride is so superior to my E61, even on runflats, that even after having owned it for nearly a month it still makes me smile.
So I can select Comfort, Normal or Sport as the mood takes me - it's like having several cars in one!
Just brilliant!

I have a late september build F10. Standard 17" wheels with Pirelli P7 runflats.
I also have the pulling to the right problem. Dealer did not hear about the problem before or just pretended they didn't. They are very cooperative and are looking into it, though.
I first thought it was caused by the runflats. But its always pulling to the right no matter if I drive on the left or right side. BTW, we drive on the right side in Holland.

I still think the new 5 series is a perfect car and hope there will be a solution soon. I can imagine that this malfunction can be dangerous. BMW should call these cars back for a thorough checkup. This is very bad for marketing.
