245 40R/20 on BBS CHR RIMS?

So, after six bent rims and 10 blown Michelin Super sport summer tires, I am getting my rims powder coated after having them straightened.

Looking at tire rack recommended Continental DWS 06 in a suggested size of 245 35R20, but wanted to see if anyone had put 245 40R20s on their F10.

Issues with clearance? Ride feel?

Just tired of getting bubbles and bent rims every time I hit a bump in NJ. Larger sidewall should help cushion the sidewalls.

Comments are appreciated

245/40-20 will fit without issues, but that's the limit!

I have fitted 255/40-20 up front and they rub the steering knuckle, at least with wheel offset above 30.

See photo below for reference, less than 1/10" clearance with the car on the lift and rubs with the weight on the wheels.

Yep, my wife had 245/40/20 fr/ 275/35/20 rr when she had her F10 without any problems. You'll notice the ride being 80% better. Worst case, if the tire rubs, pick up a set of thin spacers. Other option is to go 255/35/20 fronts which will give a tiny bit more cushion.

Being an AWD I would prefer to keep all 4 tires the same. Tire rack reports that the 35 to 40 adds .09 inches to the tire over the 35 series. They recommend the 245 35 R20 and say the Continental DWS 06 has reinforced sidewalls to prevent pothole damage. So I might just go with the 35's.

Running the Dinan Control Arms and Software for the suspension as well so that might come in as a factor for tire fitment and if no one else has the Dinan control arms, I guess I will be the Ginny pig.

I appreciate the feedback everyone. Thank you.

Talked to Tire Rack quite a bit today and I think I am going to settle on the Contental DWS 06 255 35/R20 tires. The final info they sent was "255/35R20 @ 27.0" in diameter would be .4" wider and .2" taller (.1" more between the wheel and the road) than the 245/35R20 @ 26.8" we recommend. The rim width range for the 255/35R20's is 8.0" to 10.0" so they would still fit on your 9.0" wheel"

So A half inch wider and about a quarter inch higher, which will give me 3/4 inch higher sidewalls than the Michelin SS tires that keep blowing out. Also the Continental have reinforced side walls to absorb pot holes better.

Will see what happens once installed, again thanks for the advice.

Something is wrong here.

245/35-20, diameter 680mm
255/35-20, diameter 686mm

This means the sidewall is 3mm higher, that is about 1/8" (or close to nothing).

Tire rack says these continental have reinforced sidewalls that absorb pot holes much better as well. Dinan recommends up to a 265 35 r20 for the Michelin SS summer tires but there is some variance between manufactures.

The biggest they recommend on the dws 06 is a 245 35 r20, but I think a 255 should still clear. I am runnning the dinan control arms front and rear so kind of in unknown territory to balance performance and pot hole resistance.

Going to have 2 brand new Michelin SS 265 30 r20 with tire rack seals still on them and 2 more with about 1500 miles in them for sale soon. They have the tire rack road hazzard want you in them for someone that wants to buy a set of tires. Doubt there is an issue in states that don't have NJ Crap roads.

Thanks for info. I will take any kind of extra sidewall clearance I can get. Just concenred if I go to a 265 35 r20 in the DWS I might have rubbing issues.

100 dollar difference between Continental DWS 06 265 35 R20 and 255 35 R20 made the final choice. Just purchased 6 of the 255 tires for 187 each today. Will report back with them on Custom painted BBS CHR 20 inch Dinan rims next couple weeks. Thanks for the help everyone!
