Charcoal Filter

Does our vehicles have a charcoal filter on the intake? I remember having it on my E90.

No, it was a charcoal filter in the intake right above the air filter. It was embedded in the intake housing. It had something to do with the emissions.

The car is so new, no one has probably even bothered to look at the air filter. Not sure if this helps:

Ive seen this charcoal filter on my Hyundai Genesis. At first I wasn't sure if it was part of the air filter, but it's not something that is meant to be replaced.

I replaced my air filter with a K&N filter. I opened up the air filter housing and there is no charcoal filter.

The charcoal filter was on my E60 and I removed it but no sign of it on my F10 535i.

You might want to do some research into possible MAF contamination from oil off the K&N. The roadfly E39 forum is a good place to find some info. It has been known to cause issues.

There is a thread about the interior filters in the DIY section.
What could be the use for charcoal filters for the engine air intake?

US MOT requirements that organic gasses that may travel down the air intake when the engine is off be absorbed and not released into the atmosphere.

Almost exclusively seen on North American cars
