Hope Canadians realize we get ripped off on the Premium fuel choices compared with the US. Typically it's 0.20/gallon premium for Super vs. Regular fuel. Your example shows a premium of 0.57/gallon for 91 octane and 0.68/gallon for 94 octane. Another example of Big Oil ripping off the consumer.

I don't get you guys. What's with all the hate about a potential M5-inspired diesel? Don't you realize that the technology is changing and we should all embrace it? I've got a E60 M5 at the moment and my brother's driving a F10 535d. And guess what? I'd take the 535d over my M5 any day of the week. The fuel consumption is awesome and there's plenty of power and torque. I can't imagine what kind of beast would a M550dX turn out to be. Let's just say I won't be going after the F10 M5 right away - I'm probably waiting for the diesel version. And since I live in the Northern Europe, I would die for a xDrive version of the M5 / M550d. There's A LOT of snow during the winters and I'm just plain-stuck with ma M5 constantly. I do have special winter tires as of last year, but it's still not good. Not good at all. Having an xDrive would also mean I could have more fun (faster corners, etc).

Now let's get back to the whole ''diesel sucks'' issue. I bet all of the morons saying that were the same morons yelling ''fu*k automatic transmission.'' Remember that, huh?! You were all saying ''no man drive an automatic car'' and ''manual is the way to go''. I guess you were wrong - automatic transmission turned out to be way faster (not to say more comfortable for everyday use).
In 5 years, you will be overwhelmed by the diesel-powered engines. And I will be there to remind you ''I told you so!!''.

The last time I lined up with a guy driving a Z4M Roadster, he thought he would easily walk away from my 335d sedan. We took off and he chirped his tires, frantically revving his engine through the gears, as the 335d effortlessly pulled away from him, riding the huge tidal wave of torque. With a simple JBD module, I have achieved high 12 second qtr mile times, and 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. With this simple 10 minute modification, this car will easily out accelerate any stock petrol 335i. Look how effortlessly the car accelerates from 0-40mph in one big surge. You are doing the speed limit in the city almost instantly. And this is with a 2nd gear launch! Drove 52miles to LAX this weekend. With 4 people in the car and the A/C running, got 47mpg. On the way back with some stop and go traffic, I still averaged 45mpg. Is there any other 3800LB+ car made that can get 45mpg and run 12 second qtr mile times??? Any car?? Thats how significant diesel performance can be..

What makes it worse is that they are doing this while making only one car that does live up to the old
BMW. sadly that car is limited and basically a marketing loss leader.
I could live with the suv's and heavy executive cruisers if they also made light drivers' cars.
I am cowering to see what the new 3
Series will weigh...

@hotrod182:
Looking at that speedo of your tuned 335d, I think I'd opt for a F30 335d instead of a 335i next year. Incredible.

When I got my first 07 335i, I still had my 06 M3. The M3 sounded/felt faster. With the engine winding to 8000rpm, and the smg slamming you in the back (set at the hardest shift mode), I was sure I did a quicker run in the M3. Suprisingly though, when I lined them up or instrumented them, they were dead even in the qtr mile. With the 335i the easier one to launch with all the torque (even without the LSD). The 335i was so effortless with smooth shifts, etc. Even mildly tuned, the 335i would walk away from my 06 M3. If the M3 were the faster car, I would have preferred to drive it instead. But since the 335i was the more powerful car, thats the car I preferred. Plus it gets better hwy mpg. I am just more interested in driving the car that IS faster, not the one the SEEMS faster. Thats just my priorities. Less "show" and more "go" any day for me. The 335d takes that driving experience even one step further in the effortless speed direction.

I have heard the same, 380 and 740. The CO2 is almost the same as the the 535, 550xdat the estimate 160!

Is it not going to be a M.

Thank you. I don't think anyone has come up with 100 hp/L in a large diesel engine yet. BMW has the 2.0 that makes a little more than 100hp/L in Europe.

You obviously don't know what an //M car is suppose to be... then BMW came out with the new X//M cars and now the 1M. It's sad, but //M only stands for MARKETING now instead of Motorsport.
What's even more sad is, people are actually buying them and they're selling in better numbers than BMW anticipated. It's even more sad that so many people buy the M3 with a sun roof over the carbon fiber roof.

.

For most it is really not worth to have carbon fiber roof instead of sun roof, because people don't really care if they are a couple of tenths slower in theory, as they are not going to push it to the limit anyways. These cars are not really motorsport cars. They are fully streetable cars which are built to be driven in traffic with stereo systems, air conditioning etc... M is marketing, as you said. It is the letter that provides sociological acceptance and appraisal and allows the manufacturer to charge higher prices for that.

Giving the reason for attaching M to a certain car, they can always say that the tuning of the engine has been done by the division that is called "Motorsport". Even if the "Motorsport" division would be totally clueless of how to push >500 hp from a small 3-liter diesel engine...

I am guessing the price will be somewhat in between the 535d and the M5, slightly more towards the M5?
