I'm posting this for my buddy with a 550 since he's a lurker and doesn't like to post on forums or reddit

But, we found a good deal on a muffler delete of the OEM muffler for the 550. It looks like the solenoid for the valvetronic flaps are still in tact. Would the exhaust still get quieter in comfort & open up in sport without the muffler?

I've seen mixed reviews.. how's the drone with a muffler delete?

Mufler delete sucks don't do it

no, muffler is gone so the flaps are pointless, just zip tie it open so doesnt look funky

I've heard clips and sounds ok, not sure on drone

Sounded good when I had it. Look up f10 550 muffler delete you might see a couple of my videos. No drone as long as you don't remove the resonators.

honestly I think your best bet, and I thought about it too, is to do electric cut offs right behind the mufflers, so you get the option of quiet and muffler delete.

We got the muffler. Going to have a buddy weld in some flanges for easy removal if we want to swap back, it was cheap enough to try out.

I'm getting jpipes as I write this post. I've heard the electronic cut offs eventually fails and leaks. Never had those myself, but thats what the Internet tells me. The Internet also tells me that this jpipe will get rid of my drone in 90-120hz range according to the math I've computed.

I've found the sweet spot! Mangaflow 14" with 2" diameter jpipes running 33" long. Mean tone at low gears and then quite at crushing speeds. Gets loud when I step on it and then quite when I let go. No drone on the freeway unless I drop it down and go wot. Its the perfect custom setup for a 535. Doesn't sound like rice rocket. 250 bucks for the whole thing. Hey man you cant leave us hanging without any sound clip. I've been looking for an option for exhaust (reasonable and affordable) to do it with my car.

Some ppl don't like the muffler delete but for what its worth, its the best bang for the bucks mod without spending thousands on exhaust.
There's a forum member who did Borla ATAK-Exhaust catback and it sounds amazing. A few youtube videos on folks wiith DP + Muffler Delete is also good sound.

My only concern is whether or not it will have issues passing SMOG.
From what I've researched...the lack of a muffler doesn't automatically result in a fail.

Can anyone confirm this from personal experience?

having lived in Cali myself if the muffler is missing they will fail you automatically for visual. now not all places are the same but from past experience than yes!

Just so I'm clear...you had done a muffler delete yourself when you were in CA, and ended up failing smog? Or did you hear this from someone? Please clarify.

running straight pipe from the turbo back. went to 4 different places hoping they wouldn't notice the missing mufflers. they visually walked the car and looked at the rear and asked about what happened to the muffler? automatic fail for visual. i ended up going to a shady place that would just sign off your smog inspection for $250...did that for almost 4 years!

did you just move to Cali because everybody and their mama know how strict it is to smog your car in Cali! you don't present carb #'s for any performance parts...you FAIL!
